A man in New Zealand has been charged with using a hedgehog as a weapon, the New Zealand Herald has reported.
Police said William Singalargh, 27, had hurled the hedgehog about 5m (16ft) at a 15-year-old boy.
"It hit the victim in the leg, causing a large, red welt and several puncture marks," said Senior Sgt Bruce Jenkins, in the North Island town of Whakatane.
It was unclear whether the hedgehog was still alive when it was thrown, though it was dead when collected as evidence.
The police spokesman said the suspect was arrested "for assault with a weapon, namely the hedgehog."
Mr Singalargh is due to appear in court on 17 April. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.

Ouch! ‘Strewth that must have hurt! Not funny! Not even a bit funny!
Them hedgehog mungrels are all sharp pointy spikes, a little like a baseball with hundreds of nails sticking out, maybe 1-2 lbs heavy.
It wouldn’t have hurt the hedgehog but. They roll up into a tight ball when threatened, spikes-out, and are quite rubbery. If a dog, for example, tries to bite one, the dog owner will for sure have a vet bill and the hedgehog will waddle away laughing.
Throwing a hedgehog! Hell-funny and only in NZ! Crikey!

Boring. Imagine the potential of a sport where the ball can bite, run away and leave players full of sharp spines. In the heavyweigh division they can use porcupines! Them’s manly sports fer sure.

To: Tallguy
Hehe. From that thread on that old PIAT launcher, I ended up finding out that the name "hedgehog" came from the look of the spines after the charges were launched.
Probably a good and misleading code name as well.

I actually had to learn something to respond to your comment. The hedgehog is an insectivore, and not a rodent. Who knew?!?

,,, very rarely I’ll see a hedgehog in daylight. They’re nocturnal. I’ve never seen anyone throwing one. Most commonly their chosen way of death is by being run over by cars. The little suckers are known to carry all sorts of diseases.

Either one could leave a large, red welt....but I don't think Jeremy would leave puncture marks.

Opossums (we call 'em possums) are the leaders in becoming road kill here in Oregon, they are also nocturnal.

Nocturnal, very slow moving generally and incredibly slow witted... the perfect combination for road kill.
