Obama on small-town PA: Clinging religion, guns, xenophobia
Politico.com ^ | 04/11/08 | Ben Smith

Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

That's pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.

O.K. this guy totally creeps me out. Thats why I'm voting for him in the primary May 6!

Of course, if he wins the presidency, you can only blame yourself.

Obama is incredibly overbearing and egotistical. He’s also a racist and a baby killer, but hey, nobody’s perfect./s

Arrogant was the word I was searching for to describe Obama. There is no end to his arrogance.

We’ve allowed leftism to become more and more mainstream, people don’t realize how radical it is, and with a dem Congress and an Obama presidency we are about to get one heck of a shocking dose of marxism right up the keyster.

If McQueeg weren’t so lame this election would be a walkover for the GOP.

Its a stereotype. If someone made such a characterization about a black community, there'd be a political firestorm. Obama is supposed to be a uniter. He's just another liberal politician playing off Americans against each other. Small town Americans are just inbred and insular folks. Thanks for that snide remark about us.

Funny...Drudge has the AP headline "Obama says some voters are angry, bitter" which leads to the Reuters story:

Obama attacked as elitist after fundraiser remarks

I think Obama is much more beatable. Really. Hillary looks conservative next to this guy.

The left is seductive, especially in times of trouble and fear. Obama knows how to wield white guilt to his advantage.

How many Americans are aware that Obama called the Muslim call to prayer, “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset”?

Got a source for that one? An audio quote would be perfect.

It was from a NYT article from 2006.

That is a great image.

It perfectly describes how the leftists feel about their hogwash. If you disagree you are ignorant backwoods sort.

Only the truly enlightened have realized that religion and defending your countries borders from islamic nutjobs is not part of a happy elite sociey.

Obama and his racist supporters makes me sick but I hope he is the nominee because he and his wife are willing to advertise what anti-american scum they are.

Even hillary would wear an american flag pin to not ruffle feathers.

B-b-b-b-ut I thought that being a Democrat meant you were for the little people and the blue collar workers.

When I read about this on LGF I knew that there would be a post here about this. It seems like when a Democrat says something truly elitist and condescending, which they do often, while masking themselves in populistic cliches it is always a big hit at places like here and I love it. The fact that Hillary and Bill, while saying ridiculous things, have not stooped this low(especially because of Bill’s roots) and Obama is still the Party’s choice is depressing.

It wasn’t long ago when the Democratic Party was Anti-Gun Control Pro-Life and also was focused on Immigration issues, basically small town Pennsylvania, until they slipped on a bog. Nowadays Obama paints the admirable nostalgic small towns of Pennsylvania(ones that people like my mom grew up in) as the charicatures you see in the movies made by Hollywood. He probably also thinks that they are made up of very scary, rigid people who will kill you if you are not very Christian. No wonder blue collar workers would rather vote for Hillary over Obama, to them Obama is another rich white man who doesn’t give a darn about them.

Their candidate, John Edwards, left and now you’ve got either Hillary “I picked Janet Reno for Bill” or Obama “I have no record of ever doing anything worthy but I am black so vote for me”. I also find it interesting that he, and Hillary have made outrageous statements with the hoi pilloi crowd in San Francisco. Personally I really don’t like both but at least Hillary knows a little on how a Presidential candidate acts, Obama doesn’t.

Yea, that is what I saw.

Now I'm thinking you and that other poster were talking about a link that went to a different source for the story?

The audio of course came from a Huffington Post person that recorded the remarks on a voice recorder

I think I saw up thread something about a Huff mention.
