Carl Bernstein’s View: A Hillary Clinton presidency
CNN ^ | April 12, 2008 | Carl Bernstein

Posted on 04/13/2008 4:54:18 PM PDT by BulletBobCo

What will a Hillary Clinton presidency look like?

The answer by now seems obvious: It will look like her presidential campaign, which in turn looks increasingly like the first Clinton presidency.

Which is to say, high-minded ideals, lowered execution, half truths, outright lies (and imaginary flights), take-no prisoners politics, some very good policy ideas, a presidential spouse given to wallowing in anger and self-pity, and a succession of aides and surrogates pushed under the bus when things don’t go right. Which is to say, often.

And endless psychodrama: the essential Clintonian experience that mesmerizes the press, confuses the citizenry, confounds members of both parties in Congress (not to mention the Clintons themselves, at times) and pretty much keeps the rest of the world constantly amused and fixated.

Such a picture of Clinton Redux is, by definition, speculation. But it is speculation based on the best evidence at hand: the demonstrable and familiar record of Hillary and Bill Clinton coupled together in Permanent Campaign-mode for a generation, waging a continuous fight on the national political stage since 1992, an unceasing campaign for the White House, for redemption, for their ideas (sometimes) and for themselves (almost always), especially in 2008.

The basic dynamics of the campaign, except for the Clintons’ vast new-found personal wealth and its challenges, have been near-constant since they arrived in Washington: through Whitewater, health care, the battle of the budget, the culture wars, the tax returns released only under duress, the travel office, Monica, impeachment, the pardons and through Hillary Clinton’s often repugnant presidential campaign.

Hey Bernstein, you’re no Bob Woodward.

This column could have been written by Rush Limbaugh with the exception of the line about the Clinton Presidency being more succesful than the Bush administration. True, we did largely have peace and prosperity but so have we from 2002 through much of 2007. Bush had to contend with the fallout of the tech bubble which saw the NASDAQ start falling rapidly at the end of the Clinton regime. And Bush had to contend with the economic disaster (and more) brought on by 9/11. Shouldn’t the entire political class of which Bill Clinton was the head, bear some responsibility for failures there?

Hey Bernstein, you’re no Bob Woodward.

That's for sure---he hits Clinton much harder than Woodward ever would.

Well .. I’m wondering if such a catastraphe would catapult us into another revolution.

Sometimes (but not often) I wonder if that would be such a terrible thing.

My WORST FEAR - is not that she’ll be elected .. but that as soon as she takes office - WE’LL BE HIT WITH ANOTHER TERROR ATTACK - WORSE THAN 9/11.

I keep reading articles that the attack is in the planning stages. I’m really concerned - this time it will be nuclear and perhaps hundreds of thousands will due from the fallout.

Can we afford to have such a person as Obama or Clinton in office during such an event ..??

If you were thinking of sitting out this election - think again!!

I think it has really surprised the Clinton’s that they aren’t allowed to get away with what they once did.

They aren't getting with it anymore because their protectors, the MSM, has chosen to side with their opponent.

It was not until Obama emerged as a formidible competitor that the media turned against her. Otherwise, the incessant lies and reprehensible tactics would still be going unremarked (or, alternatively, cheered).

We need to remember that the press has not changed its colors. They have not had an epiphany about their mistaken liberalism. Instead, they have simply chosen to back a different, younger, more glamorous horse. An even more liberal pony...

A second Clinton administration will be just as disastrous as the first only it would occur in a much more dangerous world.

I believe that she would be worse than Bill. When you think about it, Bill was too busy getting BJs to do that much damage. I agree, he ignored the growing terrorist threat. But for the most part, he was not much worse that George H. W. Bush. The biggest disasters in my lifetime were Johnson followed by Carter.

Always planning for worst case contingencies and availing herself of her extensive entertainment industry contacts, Hillary has secretly cut a CD for release should she not win the election.

This is the proposed package for this soon to be blockbuster recording:

Hillary, as a teen, before all of the plastic surgery:

Additionally, this remind me of the old song They all get better looking at "Quiting Time".

Here's the real thought in this stream!

Swell. With one Dem candidate we get corruption with the other we get America bashing. I think I prefer the Clinton Crime family to the subversive Obamas.

McCain had better run a very smart campaign and choose a fine VP or the next four years will be an unmitigated disaster in ways we cannot even imagine.

Interesting. Bernstein was/is a Clintonoid suck butt for a long time.

Another DemocRAT worm turns.

You know that our enemies are hunkered down in their caves just waiting to see how this election turns out. The Clintons have a track record of rolling over for the moslems and while Obama doesn’t have any record at all for anything, I think we can rule out any swift merciless reprisals for any moslem mischief from him.

McCain is going to have to nominate an El Cid or George Patton for VP. I don't have any problems with McCain when it comes to protecting us, but he is going to need someone other than a pointy-headed intellectual should he require replacement.

I certainly hope that Jefferson's warning about the tree of liberty needing nurturing from the blood of patriots doesn't come to pass.

I am not surprised he badmouthed the Clintons. It’s because he is rooting for Obama, who in my opinion, is much worse than Hillary. Carl is a clown.
