GOP Congressman Apologizes for Calling Obama 'Boy' (that was quick)
ABC ^ | 4/14/08 | staff

Posted on 04/14/2008 2:06:55 PM PDT by pissant

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: A Republican House member Monday sent a letter of apology to Sen. Barack Obama, after calling him "boy" and comparing him to a "snake oil salesman" in attacking his national security credentials at a weekend fund-raising dinner in Kentucky.

According to a Lexington Herald-Leader blog item, Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Ky., said Saturday that he had recently participated in a "highly classified, national security simulation" with Obama, and said that exercise showed that Obama can't be trusted to make difficult decisions.

"I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button," Davis said. "He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country."

The Obama campaign slammed the comments.

"It's hard to tell what is more outrageous -- Representative Davis' condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America," said Bill Burton, an Obama campaign spokesman.

Obama gets to "explain" his stupid comments, and GOPers can't grovel fast enough. Reminds me of Goerge "I'm sorry about Macaca" Allen.

It continues....

The Obama campaign slammed the comments.

“It’s hard to tell what is more outrageous — Representative Davis’ condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America,” said Bill Burton, an Obama campaign spokesman.

Davis and his office did not dispute the accuracy of the quote. In his letter to Obama, Davis, a former Army ranger first elected to Congress in 2004, wrote that he “used a poor choice of words when discussing the national security positions of the Presidential candidates.”

“My poor choice of words is regrettable and was in no way meant to impugn you or the your integrity,” Davis wrote. “I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness.”

According to a Davis spokesman, Davis hand-delivered the letter to Obama’s Senate office after returning to Washington on Monday.

With the Revrum Wrong and all of the other racist BLT and comments, I couldn’t care less what the Congressman said. I’m sick and tired of backing up every time a black person squeals about racism. It is they who have cultivated an industry around fake harm and injury.

what happened to the non-apology apology: “I regret if anyone was offended?” or “I regret if my remarks offended anyone.” This is an actual apology.

“My poor choice of words is regrettable..”

In other words, Davis “misspoke” and didn’t say it “as well as he should have.”

The Obama camp wants forgiveness for O’s blunder, let’s see them give an example of the behavior they themselves demand from others.

"It's hard to tell what is more outrageous -- Representative Davis' condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America," said Bill Burton, an Obama campaign spokesman.

The gaping silence afterward is of course Obama's plan to defend the United States while he waits to consult with the United Nations and give China veto powers over our every action...

What is wrong with what he said? The boy IS a snake oil salesman. Age gives one a different definition of “boy and girl”. The word “boy” is not in and of itself a racist slur.

When your enemy is destroying himself, get the hell out of the way.

In political circles, at least as far as the republicans are concerned, there are no enemies. Just disagreements of how fast to take us down the same road.

So when the dims are busy slitting throats, the republicans are busy baring their necks.

You can’t say the word monkey any more even in talking about one.
You can say boy even though in an older man’s eyes Obama is a boy.
You can use the word chocolate even if you are asking for a candy bar.
People are getting CRAZY. Life is too short for all this insanity.

Good grief - I know the term “boy” can be taken as offensive when referring to a black male, but in my lexicon it's also just a plain term for any other man (usually but not necessarily youthful) - such as an athlete, a regular joe, a celebrity or politican, etc. It is sad to see the lexicon shrink out of PC fears. The congressman should have said, “I was referring to his youthful immaturity, not his race. His overreaction is simply evidence of the immaturity I was referring to, and the type of intimidation that substitutes for discussion on the Left.”

Words used to have actual meanings. “Boy” means an immature male during the years from birth to adulthood, e.g., “separate the men from the boys.” As far as real-life experience goes, Obama is really and truly immature. And “snake oil salesman” - yes, he actually is one of those.

Probably should throw the word “monkey” in there as well.

That leads to the addition of “monkey-boy” to the list ,,,and it goes on and on and on

Kinda like the Democratic primary season!

He's special man. Haven't you got that yet? Anything you say that negative is racist or xenopohobic.

This includes the word “boy,” or even his own middle name “Hussein.”

Those things not racist or xenophobic are simply “insensitive and mean spirited.”

There are certain words right wingers just can’t say regarding minorities. It’s okay if you’re a wacko liberal, but not if you’re on the right.

You can’t call a black man a boy, but you can call a cracker a boy.

You can’t say a black man likes chicken or watermelon.

You can’t say “those people” when the people happen to be minority, but you can say “typical white person” all day long.
