NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, unveiled plans on Monday to film its gun sales in the United States and create a computerized log of purchases in a bid to stop guns falling into the wrong hands.
Wal-Mart, which is the largest seller of firearms in the United States, agreed a 10-point code, which also includes rigid inventory controls, with a bipartisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns led by New York's Michael Bloomberg.

How many criminals go to WalMart to buy their guns? I don't see how this is going to do anything to lower crime. It will give them a record of what legitimate gun owner owns what gun..... I think I'll stick to buying mine at the local gun shop.....
Agreed, this is feel good nonsense.
My thought, exactly. These “Mayors” want to know who have the guns; and it’ll be law-abiders.
I sure wish people would understand that the Second Amendment was written to give the PEOPLE the RIGHT to ARM THEMSELVES against THE GOVERNMENT.
It’s obvious those in elected office know this; too bad ‘We The Sheeple’ don’t have a clue! Grrrrr!
WalMart falling on its sword in the name of PR. Nothing will happen by filming gun purchases at the point of sale because such purchasers are not criminals. Criminals get their guns from home invasions/burglaries of law abiding citizens - among other sources.
If they want to get out of the gun business there are ways to do it without insulting their customers.
Bye-bye WalMartinez, not that you and I are old friends anyway...
Bloomberg is bound and determined to do “what’s right for us little people”, even if it enslaves us...
I don’t think criminals buy their guns on the open market. They get them from people who steal the guns.
I wonder how long it will be before the BATFE decides on it's own hook or the ANTI's try to legislate cameras as a good idea for ALL gun shops and FFL's.
I wonder what would happen if a similar plan were to be proposed for libraries or book stores? Not for every book, mind you, just dangerous ones, like Mein Kampf, the koran, and anything by Karl Marx. Just how much screaming and gnashing of teeth from those on the left would we be subject to?

“I think I’ll stick to buying mine at the local gun shop.....”
Yeah, for sure. Or, at the local gun show.
However, I doubt that any business lost by Walmart will even amount to a rounding number as Walmart has not stocked handguns for several years and their long gun inventory is now minimal. It’s my guess that Walmart did it’s homework on this before announcing...
Sooooo, unless the buyer of the gn turns around & hands it to another.....HOW are they going see them "fall into the wrong hands"?
Wow! A “two-fer!” A Wal-Mart/Nanny-State Ping! And it’s only Tuesday, LOL!
What if I wear my burka?
F.ing surveillance state. Stop looking at me!!@!@!
Some areas require a spent shell casing that’s matched to the firearm to be sent in so that they’ve got something they can use to compare ballistics. Does Wal-Mart even sell pistols? How many criminals go to Wal-Mart to buy a long gun?
Not that I ever considered Wal-Mart a good place to buy firearms before, but this is good way to make sure I don’t bother. All the extra cost in implementing the system and extra checks has to come from somewhere.
At least they still sell guns, besides they have to record the sale anyway, so it’s not like no one knows you bought a gun.
I didn’t know Wally World sold handguns.
This sounds like a deliberate end to gun sales at Wal-Mart. Sales will surely take a dive, and then Wal-Mart can quit selling guns and ammo and use the sales decline as the excuse.
How are they going to match their gun sales to guns used in crimes? The only way is to send in a monthly SN report to the police, I guess.
Ya buy ammo at the same counter what with the camera running the entire time and all. It would be interesting to note if there are now some really good deals on ammo...
