Thanking God for Nice Weather Too Much for Maggie
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Just a puny personal pronoun, yet one that perhaps spoke volumes about MSM attitudes toward religion. On the occasion of the Mass that Pope Benedict XVI will be celebrating later day at DC's Nationals Park, Early Show co-anchor interviewed Father Thomas Williams, a Roman Catholic priest who also serves as a CBS religion analyst.

For the liberal media, even a subject as seemingly innocuous as a nice spring day can suddenly turn into a PC minefield should it put an MSMer in the position of having to recognize God's work, as this exchange reveals.

LOL: precisely!

You know, I hesitated to write this item. I’m sure there are people who will say I’m making a mountain out of a molehill. But I sincerely believe Rodriguez made a conscious decision to avoid saying something that would suggest that, God forbid!, she might believe in God.

It’s very possible this is merely a slip of the tongue for Maggie. Even on-air professionals get their mental wires crossed and say the wrong word. If Maggie repeatedly used the pronoun “It” during dialogue with Fr. Williams, then newsbusters would have a case. But since Ms Rodriguez only said “it” once in this manner, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt.

Of course I can’t prove it, and you might be right. But of all the slips she might make, she just happened to make one that helped her avoid suggesting her belief in God. As the Church Lady used to say on SNL: isn’t that convie-e-e-e-nt!

But that posed a double dilemma for Rodriguez. Not only would she have to acknowledge the existence of God, but in doing so might suggest God is a He. Gadzooks! What's a good MSMer to do? Here's how Maggie dodged the divine bullet.

And you're giving her credit for all that thinking in such a short time?

I think you've misoverestimated her thinking cap.

An easier answer is that she just doesn't listen to what her guest says.

She asked a canned banter question, got an uncanned answer, and continued with her canned banter response AND DIDN'T NOTICE.

Don't you think that's more likely?

She absolutely made a decision NOT to say ‘He.’ No way this was a slip of the tongue or coincidental. She’d be tossed off the lib-ship if she agreed with the priest. Disgusting.

“Don’t you think that’s more likely?”

Obviously I don’t or I wouldn’t have written the item. People will have to make up their own minds.

Well, I didn’t see the piece so I will yield to your judgement, but (if all else was equal) dumb is an easier explanation than evil, in my book.

Here’s the video should you want to check it out. Not saying it will change your mind, but certainly Father Williams rather emphatically makes the statement to her about God smiling down.

Coulda been worse - she could have said "Gaia" ;-)

BTW - caught the last few minutes of "Fox and Friends" this morning, and was surprised to hear Megyn Kelly say that she is a practicing Catholic. She also mentioned that when she receives communion from a lay person instead of a priest, she feels shortchanged. Wonder how that one's going to play with the good lay people who distribute communion.

LOL. She was probably tempted to say “let’s enjoy it while we can, since in a few years global warming will turn DC into a blazing desert” ;-)

I checked out the video -- she answered so fast ("It really is!") that it looked to me as if she considered mention of God such a faux pas that she had to come in quickly before anyone noticed or, God (oops! can I say that?) forbid, the priest might go on in that vein! LOL! And she sped on with "You can really feel the energy . . .", bringing us back, I guess, to the "life force" or some such! ;-)
