Your friend broke rule # 1 in working around a bull - NEVER turn your back on him. If you're not paying attention, you're going to get hurt sooner or later, and it's NOT the animal's fault.

When I met my present husband, I was living on a farm raising Charolais and breeding TB's. He was blown away when he met some of my neighbors, and decided after talking to some of them that most modern farmers have been exposed to too many chemicals, and it shows. LOL!

I've had some broken bones, lots of bruises and bites, but nothing that wasn't my own fault. According to those lists the gov't publishes, farming is more dangerous than coal mining.
