Sleeping with the enemy
LA Times ^ | April 24th, 2008 | Arianna Huffington

Posted on 04/24/2008 11:05:04 AM PDT by The_Republican

Over the last seven years, the lunatic fringe in control of the Republican Party -- the people who believe in torture but don't believe in evolution -- have hijacked our democracy, aided and abetted by the news media. The heart of the problem is not the bias of Fox News or the blowhards on AM talk radio but a mainstream media that has completely internalized how the right frames all political debate. The right-wing message has become a part of the news media's DNA.

The latest confirmation came with this week's announcement that Tony Snow, formerly a host at Fox News and press secretary for the White House, where he earned high marks as a gifted purveyor of Bush/Cheney propaganda, would be joining CNN as a commentator. I guess Karl Rove was too busy with his Newsweek gig and Bill Kristol with his New York Times column. What's next, NPR signing up "Scooter" Libby and David Addington?

Certainly other White House insiders, such as William Safire and George Stephanopoulos, have made the leap to TV and print news. But this current crop remains unabashed propagandists. By embracing them, the mainstream media have revealed a mile-wide streak of self-loathing.

Have they been so cowed by the Republicans' relentless branding of them as "liberal" that they feel compelled to sleep with the enemy? Make no mistake, Rove, Kristol and Snow are the enemies of honesty, truth, facts, reality and the public's right to know.

Rove's commitment to deception is legendary. His entire career as a GOP shot-caller was built on it. Kristol, Dan Quayle's chief of staff in the first Bush administration, is neoconservatism's crown prince. As editor of the Weekly Standard, he was a prime pusher of invading Iraq, and his claims about war's progress have been discredited again and again.

Whenever I need a good laugh, I dig up one of Lisa Douglas’s screeds about how terrible it is for Liberals because of the mean old Conservative press.

If that's true, then why are we stuck with McCain for our nominee?

She’s a member of one of the most whacked-out cults in the US; she’s gone from extreme liberal to extreme conservative back to extreme liberal in less than 20 years; she garnered .06 percent of the vote when running against Ahnold in CA....is there any reason why this witch continues to get juicy columns published even in screeds like the LA Times?

The words “Lunatic Fringe” certainly describes her well. It’s no wonder her husband dumped her.

So Arianna, what exactly is it that you’re afraid of.... words? A differing opinion? Are conservative thoughts somehow evil?

How about the free exchange of ideas, Arianna? What’s so evil about that? After all... they’re only words.

I don't see any journalistic bias in that sentence and, for confirmation, I asked my good friend Hans Blix and he agreed.

Nothing to see here, move along!!

Maybe she's got this on HuffPo, too.

So, Stephanopolis is OK, but Tony Snow is not.

Stephie is both Greek and a liberal, which makes him doubly OK with Areola.

She should know about ‘sleeping with the enemy’.

After graduation, she moved to London and lived with the journalist and broadcaster Bernard Levin, whom she had met while the two were panelists on the TV show Face the Music. She left Levin in 1980, after he refused to marry her, and moved to the United States. During these years and around the time of her involvement with John-Roger’s religious group, she was involved with Democratic politician and now former governor of California, Jerry Brown. It was during this time that Huffington (then Stassinopoulos) was first known as a liberal/left-wing/Democrat, the position she has returned to once again the post-90s years following right-wing years of the 80s to late 90s.

Arianna Huffington (born Arianna Stassinopoulos on July 15, 1950 in Athens, Greece) is an author and nationally syndicated columnist in the United States.

Huffington describes herself as a “former right-winger who has evolved into a compassionate and progressive populist”. She is the founder of The Huffington Post, a liberal online news and commentary website and aggregated blog. Her latest book is Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe.

She met millionaire Michael Huffington at a 1985 party hosted by Ann Getty in San Francisco.

The couple divorced in 1997.

Huffington’s shift in political ideology was purportedly inspired by her Left, Right & Center segment colleague, Robert Scheer. Huffington’s political transition coincided with the crisis in the Balkans during the 1990s. Huffington was a vocal opponent of American intervention against the Serbians during the Bosnian and Kosovo wars. Huffington publicly showed support against the U.S. intervention to stop genocide and atrocities in Somalia in 1991. [3]

In 2000, she instigated the ‘Shadow Conventions’, which appeared at the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.

Huffington heads The Detroit Project, a public interest group lobbying automakers to start producing cars running on alternative fuels. The project’s 2003 TV ads, which equated driving sport utility vehicles to funding terrorism, proved to be particularly controversial, with some stations refusing to run them. Huffington drives a gasoline-electric hybrid car, the Toyota Prius and owns a Gulf Stream 5 private jet.

Amazing! This little mouse Huffington is actually complaining that some organizations in the Democrat mainstream news media have hired token conservatives? How pathetic is that?

The more I read from Huffington, the more grateful I am that California did NOT elect as one of its Senators the homosexual who dumped her for a man.

Every time I read any of her articles I can hear her incoherent bad accent with every word mangled and that high pitch sound (apologies to all good people with accent). It actually ends up giving me a headache. Yeah, I know I have problems.
