Posted on 04/24/2008 5:07:45 PM PDT by LJayne
Reports that the N.C. Republican Party is pulling a planned TV advertisement about Barack Obama are false, Republican chairwoman Linda Daves said today.
"I can't be emphatic enough that we're running the ad," Daves said, reports David Ingram. "We are not pulling the ad. It has never been a consideration for us to pull the ad."
Several media outlets, including MSNBC, have reported that the party reversed course Thursday and would not run the ad. The ad has been scheduled to begin running Monday on evening newscasts in North Carolina.
Daves said the reaction received by the party is running 10-to-1 in favor of the ad.
At least one television station, WRAL in Raleigh, has declined to run the ad.
"I think it is inflammatory," said Jim Hefner, vice president and general manager at WRAL. "If that spot was about Senator Obama, that would be one thing. What do Perdue and Moore have to do with Barack Obama's minister?"
Unlike with ads sponsored by political candidates, the station is under no legal obligation to run an issue ad sponsored by a political party, Hefner said.

So TV stations will run ads from the UnAmerican Democrat Party, but not Republicans.
Has this station ran ads from MoveOn.org?

It’s a win-win situation. McCain can do whatever he likes—there’s no way the Dems can use this against him no matter how it turns out. What are they gonna do, run ads that say “McCain refused to badger NC GOP to take down ads showing Obama’s ties to radical preacher Wright”. There’s nothing they can do without themselves drawing more attention to the Obama-Wright connection. NC is right to keep the ads up, McCain is smart to distance himself.
To: LJayne
"What do Perdue and Moore have to do with Barack Obama's minister?"Well Mr. Hefner, they support a man whose spiritual advisor hates America and has had great influence over him. Anything else flying over your head you need explained?

I’ve wavered on whether it would be easier to beat Obama or Hillary. I have flopped in favor of Hillary. If McCain is unwilling to attack Obama over Wright, he won’t attack him over anything.
To: Ilya Mourometz
Yes, it is a win/win, becuase John (formerly known as 'the spine') McCain has been outed for what he is... AGAIN!!!
He shouldn't ask that this add be stopped. He shouldn't be standing behind some woman's skirt. He should be doing this himself. What a loser...
Senator John McCain wants to be the figure-head of Conservatism. Okay, lets think that out...
John McCain becomes President. He's still the same old John McCain.
The RNC backs his liberal policies to maintain a position of power
The Republicans in Congress back his polices to maintain access to the White House
Republican candidates for Congressional seats move to the left, since John McCain proved that moving to the left assures RNC support and votes
The Republican party leadership at the state level moves left as McCain and the RNC demand it
Republican candidates at the state level move to the left, since John McCain proved that moving to the left assures Republican support and votes
Republican Conservative office holders across the nation will be silenced
Apologists on Conservative forums across this nation defend McCain against the few Conservatives who are left, and attack them there (forums move left)
Last but not least, the Democrats move even farther left to differentiate themselves from McCain
Who writes Conservative bills and rams them through state or federal government after that?
Who talks about Conservatism from a position of power? Who takes the chance to disagree with McCain on anything?
Under a John McCain Presidency, Conservatism ceases to become a movement, and becomes a theory. It will no longer be practiced by enough politicians to be viable.
Under leftist McCain, there is no functional opposition. Promoting leftist policy, it all passes without opposition, nobody objects to the liberal policies
Under leftist Hillary or Barack, there is not only a functional opposition, it grows by leaps and bounds in objection to their policies
We saw what a one party system did to Arkansas under Clinton. It was terrible. Now we want to install that in our federal government, leftists one and all.
No thanks. Color me dumb, but I'm not voting to turn the U.S. into 1980s Arkansas.
LINK: Welcome to McCain's impact on the Republican National Committee, it's happening

LINK: Welcome to McCain's impact on State level Republican party leadership, it's happening
LINK: Welcome to McCain's impact on Republican Conservative office holder voices, it's happening
LINK: Welcome to McCain's impact on Conservative forums, it's happening
Folks, you either wake the hell up, or doom conservatism to oblivion. After November the 4th, it's too late. You will have silenced Conservatism in our nation for four or eight years, and quite possibly forever.

Today, while in NO, McCain made it clear that he’s running for the democrat ticket, and he’s going to try to beat Bush.
So don’t worry about anything McCain says about the RNC....run the ad.

Good for Daves. Finally a Republican that knows how to go for the jugular and make it done right. Playing pussyfoot with the Democrats won't work. If the Democrats had this kind of ammunition against a Republican candidate, they would use it ad nauseum. I never can understand why RINO Republicans always want to play patticake with the Democrats when all they want is it all and obliterate the Republican. This is a war for the country and lets' use what is at hand.

hear Daves on NPR...the NPR reporterete was very snarky...Why are you beating your husband type of questions...only it was “Why are you running this bigoted ad?”. NCGOP CHAIRMAN SAYS “EXTREME” AD WILL RUN
RALEIGHNorth Carolina Republican Party Chairman Linda Daves made the following statement:
“Contrary to any media reports, the ‘Extreme’ ad will run as scheduled next week. There has never been any intention to pull the ad and it will air.
The ‘Extreme’ ad has garnered attention around the country. I want to thank the people across North Carolina and across the country who have shown overwhelming support for us. Our aim is to tell the truth and ask difficult questions. We will continue to do so.
People here in North Carolina should know that this ad is focused on Democrats Richard Moore and Beverly Perdue. By endorsing Barack Obama, they allied themselves with the most liberal person in the United States Senate. He is a candidate out of touch with the voters of North Carolina who does not share the values of North Carolinians. By refusing to stand up and rightfully denounce the statements made by his controversial former associates, Perdue and Moore are giving us the impression that they share these extreme views. The voters of North Carolina should be allowed to ask a legitimate question of candidates in North Carolina. Who do you choose to associate yourself with and how does that reflect on your judgment? It is true that your character is proven by the company you keep. Those who step forward to run for the highest post in North Carolina must show the best judgment. Perdue and Moore have shown poor judgment in their associations and the voters of North Carolina rightly question their actions and their continued silence.
Democrats in North Carolina are trying to inject race into this ad. This tactic, designed to further drive a wedge between the people of North Carolina, is despicable and wrong. This ad has absolutely nothing to do with race. It is completely factual and contains no information that has already received a public airing. Let me be perfectly clear: It is entirely inappropriate for voters to consider race when judging the quality of a candidate running for any office. If Senator Clinton had a pastor who made these same anti-American statements and the Democrat candidates for Governor endorsed her, we would be running the same ad.
Finally, I want to say that the North Carolina Republican Party has had and will continue to have a great working relationship with the RNC. We are entirely in support of John McCain for President. I have great respect and admiration for Senator McCain. He will be a great President when he is elected in November. As State Party Chairman, I serve in a dual role. Not only do I support our party’s candidate for President of the United States, I also have a duty to see that Republicans are elected across the state of North Carolina. This ad opposes two Democrat candidates for Governor in North Carolina. It poses a legitimate question about judgment for which the people of North Carolina deserve an answer.”

I don’t think it was planned out this way, but I think it’s turned into a tactic. So long as McCain continues to point out that the presumptive nominee is not the freaking Pope of the party, and has nothing to do with gubernatorial elections in NC, I don’t see a downside here. In fact, even if McCain ultimately pressures NC to take it down, I don’t see how it hurts him. Politics is politics and it’s a tough business; Republicans whose feelings get hurt because McCain’s gotta do what he’s gotta do to win should maybe think of another line of work to get into.
This anti-McCain fantasy of Republicans staying home in droves so they can let Obama take the White House is mind-boggling. It won’t happen and when McCain wins, they will be all to eager to kiss and make up. Same drill we went through in 00 and 04 when the same people were convinced W was going to sell out the country. If Obama wins because these self-appointed arbiters of “true conservativism” can’t see past their hatred of McCain, they’ll go down in history as nothing less than traitors.
To: Gator113

TV stations refuse to air controversial Republican ad
By David Ingram | McClatchy Newspapers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. A Charlotte TV station says it will not air an advertisement from the state’s Republican Party that uses a sound bite from Barack Obama’s retiring minister.
“I just don’t think it’s appropriate to be on our air,” said Joe Pomilla, general manager for WSOC in Charlotte. “I think it’s offensive, and I’m not real comfortable with the implications around race.”
