Checkmate! A Hillary Move To The Right Would Capture The King And End The Game

An Obama nomination is now in doubt. Hillary has won every large state except Obama's own Illinois. The momentum is all Hillary's. It's time to consider "who" she might pick to beat McCain.

Hillary has shown she can now be the "moderate" Dem and even a populist. Obama's fall and McCain's unpopularity with conservatives shows the country does not want a liberal (McCain) or a Socialist (Obama) for President. While she will pull our troops out of that toilet bowl/hellhole called Iraq, she's decidedly for winning in Afghanistan. That's hardly "a leftist" position! She's come out against dl's for illegals. The chances of her "moving right" after becoming President are good. The chances of McCain "moving right" are slim and none. While she needs the Latino vote to get elected, after beating McCain, I believe she will turn right-- particularly on the Invasion by Mexico. The Border is a war zone. The cartels are getting stronger. What has McCain done in the 25 years he's been in office about the Invasion from Mexico? Nothing, except push for Amnesty and continued open borders. Americans have spoken loud and clear on Amnesty, the Border fence and interior enforcement. Special Order 40--the pro-illegal alien gang banger policy instituted in 1979 by the insane former-L.A. Police Chief Daryl Gates--is close to being rescinded in Los Angeles County. The DHS raids on businesses across the country have been few and far between, but they're having the desired effect. States that passed tough anti-illegal alien laws are seeing mass exodus of illegals to other states. If Hillary really wants to protect the U.S. and values American workers, she'll flip on illegal immigration. A Heath Shuler or Byron Dorgan VP pick will show conservatives and Independents that this is where she's headed. Hillary can beat McCain by outflanking him [by] moving right. If anyone can pull it off, it's Hillary!

Senator Dorgan is adored by conservatives all over the country (in large part because he voted against Amnesty) and is one of the sharpest minds in the Senate, if not in all of Congress. He's insightful and has the respect of working men and women-citizens all over the country. He's the only Blue Dog in the Senate who has stood up to Bush and the RINOs from a populist/pro-American worker/ protectionist position. Unlike Dorgan, Sen. Thune (now being considered by McCain as VP and red meat to conservatives) has thrown in with Bush on many issues. Dorgan is a big FAIR TRADER, not a "free trader" or as some call them, "free traitors". The trouble is, Dorgan's from a Northern state and losing him in the Senate will leave only a couple of conservatives in that body.

If on the other hand Hillary decides to pursue "a Southern strategy", there are any number of choices, but the one that pops out at Independents and disaffected conservatives is Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina. Shuler won his seat in N.C. in 2006 in a heavily Republican district with an incredible 75% of the vote by running on a tough anti-illegal alien platform (Shuler is mistaken, however, to believe that baloney about there being only "12 million" illegals in the U.S. The CAPS Report of October 2007 found the number to be anywhere from 20 to 38 million and from 2004 data, the Bear Sterns Report estimated the number to be 20 million. He states that "Thousands of illegals are streaming into the U.S. every week". He's got it wrong there, too--it's EVERY DAY, not every week. 3 million break into the U.S. every year--10,000 PER DAY). He's young, good looking and an excellent speaker. Quarterbacks (he was an NFL QB) are known to be good leaders, save for liberals like Jack Kemp. N.C. is a very important state this year. Obama will likely win the N.C. primary because of the black vote, but he could not win the state against McCain as McCain would get the white vote and the crossover Hillary voters who would never vote for Obama. With Hillary as the nominee, a Heath Shuler VP selection besides being a good overall Southern strategy might garner enough N.C. Blue Dems to give Hillary a victory there over McCain who is backed by pro-military whites. Her selecting Shuler would signal voters that N.C. is THE most important state of the "battlegrounders" and also signal that she's going after the South in a big way. Shuler has made a name for himself lately with appearances on the Lou Dobbs Show which caters to Independent voters. Hillary's choosing Shuler would also be a signal that she's serious about going after the much-needed "Independent vote". There is another excellent reason for her selecting someone like Shuler; it would be a signal to disaffected conservatives that Hillary will never sign an Amnesty bill if presented one by Congress. As things stand, with the much hated McCain as the GOP nominee, disgruntled conservatives will have less reason to "stay home" if they see someone like the young Shuler as her VP, or, at the very least, they won't be as likely to cast their votes for McCain. Shuler also brings something that Hillary will see as a treasure trove--he's a Southern Baptist. That is an important Southern voting block and Hillary needs them to win the South. Shuler is best known for having introduced the SAVE Act in 2007, a Border enforcement legislation that was bi-partisan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_Shuler

There are certainly reasons why Hillary wouldn't pick Shuler. He might hurt her in Northern, liberal states like New York and CA, but she's already strong in these states with women. Shuler is a liberal on economic and environmental issues. His one, real "negative"--he's young (37). Sen. Dorgan's been in Congress almost as long as McCain. That can be seen as a negative as he's not "new blood" like Rep. Shuler.

If Hillary wants "a rock star" VP with his political life ahead of him, Shuler's the man. He's currently the Deputy House Whip. At 37, he's already done more than most young House members do in there entire careers. His dramatic win in a Republican district in N.C. is something Hillary should seriously consider. Dorgan has a great deal of common sense, something lacking in pols these days. But most importantly, each of them can and will attract crossover Independent and conservative voters who wouldn't vote for McCain if their lives depended on it.

If I were giving Hillary political advice, I'd say "Choose Shuler!". Hillary and the QB...what a combination!

Shuler seems to have his head on straight. If the Dims had any brains they’d throw Barry and Hillary under the bus and nominate Shuler. I’d probably vote for him over McCain.

Anyone who thinks Hillary Rodham has swum through sh*t for 30 years in order to give up her Marxism and abandon her lesbian fascist inner circle at THIS point is delusional.

She’s almost got her hands on the prize. The Long March for Hillary and the small army of communists who have followed her and sustained her since 1969 is almost over.

It is a fantasy that she will change, now. You should have supported Obama when you had the chance.

Interesting points. Our GOP candidate is so far to the left, it is conceiveable that Hillary could run to his right, at least on a couple of issues. Hopefully, McCain will figure this out, and move to the right a little, although, I’m not guessing he’ll do so.

Uh, Shrillary has to win the nomination first - are you imagining that she should announce her VP pick now, or are you talking hypothetically about the general election? It’s debatable whether one of these VP picks would help her in the fall, but surely you don’t imagine that announcing Shuler or Dorgan NOW as her VP pick is going to help her wrap up the nomination with the Demagogues? Maybe Shuler helps her catch up in NC, although she still probably wouldn’t win there against Obama, but in any case she has to win the nomination first before “tacking right” can possibly help her.....

If Hillary moved to the right in reality she might get close to McGovern. Remember, many of Hillary’s votes are from conservative Democrats who will not vote for her in November (if nominated) — they just don’t like Obama. There are also Republicans voting for her to spoil the Democratic race.

If we want to read this type of fractured Democratic Party diatribe, we can go to DU or Daily KOS.

I don’t think Hillary will get the nod at this point. There are too many people against her and going with her would cause a revolt among African-American voters. And lets face it: she failed miserably. She went into the Fall as the “inevitable” nominee and got upstaged by Obama. While their vote tallies may be nearly equal, when you consider where she started + her advantages, she blew it big time.

That being said, I now realize I would feel more comfortable with her as the Dem nominee. Not because I support her, its just a case of the Devil you know being preferable to the Devil you don’t. And the last few months has convinced me that (1) Obama is dangerous, and (2) there are enough damn fools in this country that he has a real shot at winning.
