Desperately Seeking Street Cred (Dowd gives up on Obama)
New York Times ^ | April 27, 2008 | MAUREEN DOWD

Posted on 04/27/2008 4:08:44 AM PDT by tlb

Maybe I’ve been reading too many stories about the fad of teenage vampire chick lit, worlds filled with parasitic aliens and demi-human creatures, but there’s something eerie going on in this race.

Hillary grows more and more glowy as Obama grows more and more wan.

Is she draining him of his precious bodily fluids? Leeching his magic? Siphoning off his aura?

It used to be that he was incandescent and she was merely inveterate. Now she’s bristling with life force, and he looks like he wants to run away somewhere for three months by himself and smoke.

A man at a sports bar in Latrobe, Pa., advised Obama, “Get some sleep, Barack, you look like you’re tired, man.”

When the candidate noted he’s been running for president for 15 months, the guy offered another tip: “You need a drink.”

Instead of jokingly complaining that babies have learned to walk and talk since he first got in the race, he should remind voters that, if Hillary prevails, some people will slouch toward middle age having never known a White House without a Bush or a Clinton.

Accused by an Indianapolis reporter of looking like a GQ cover, he said he has only four pairs of shoes and buys “five of the same suit and then I patch them up and wear them repeatedly.” But his campaign refused to reveal the brand, presumably because it’s not J. C. Penney.

“I don’t want to go out of my way to sort of prove my street cred as a down-to-earth guy,” he said, after going out of his way. “People know me.”

Not yet, but we will, one of these years.

"we will, one of these years." But clearly she thinks 2008 isn't the year.

I've been telling anyone who doesn't run away fast enough for years now, that the Clintons are protected by ranting choirs of fallen seraphim. I think Slick is some kind of forerunner, maybe, or perhaps just Satan's favorite black-haired boy. I think he and his bat-winged consort both radiate dark light, the kind that touches things with shadows.

Does this woman expect to be taken seriously? What a self-absorbed hack with some serious mental problems she must be.

I am so sick of that term ‘street cred’. Obama is the poster boy for the hip-hop generation. (and yes, the term boy has been connected to the word poster for eons, no malicious intent intended)

No, read the article carefully, and you can hear her wishing and a-hoping for Obama to get it together.

But it's obvious she shares the belief that Hillary is turning the corner, selling the superdelegates the idea that "it's me or nothing".

Which if you think about it is a form of blackmail -- but hey, we all know Beastwoman is a reincarnation of the Borgia, Visconti, and Julio-Claudian women, all rolled together with Lady Macbeth.

But the internal evidence of the column is that Mo is still in Obama's corner. I'm convinced that, like Chris Hitchens and a lot of other liberals, she is actually horrified and repelled by the Clintons. I think she truly loathes Hillary, and that all her columns of the past skinning Hillary have come from the heart.

I doubt it.

That’s an example of SELF sacrifice. And NONE on the left have any tendency towards SELF sacrifice.

Now, if they were to set someone ELSE on fire, that would be more like the left.

Ahhh Catherine Zeta Jones, a living angel. That Michael Douglas guy sure is one lucky SOB. Can you imagine the relief the guy must feel?

He has a nightmare, that he’s with The Dowdy One, and she’s nagging nagging nagging about this and that, and he wants to scream.... and suddenly he wakes up, and there in his bed is Catherine, in her flannel jammies, sleeping like a baby, all peaceful and radiant.

Then he rolls over and falls asleep again, hoping for another 5 years or so of not re-living that awful memory again.

This is actually a pretty funny column. She's right about Hillary growing stronger as Obama loses his will to fight. Maybe he's tired, maybe he secretly knows it's a losing battle. But Dowd has never been crazy about Hillary either. I wouldn't be surprised if she voted for McCain.

He thinks campaigning for 15 months is tough? Did anyone tell him that the Presidency lasts, at a minimum, (barring any unfortunate events) four years?

Even if this guy weren’t dangerous and evil, a good campaign issue could be made of this. He simply doesn’t have what it takes to endure the Presidency. Campaigning wears him out, he can’t answer more than 8 questions, gets flustered with anything that isn’t scripted, and really just wants to be left alone to eat his waffle. What a wimp!

Sounds like the term of art, "energy creature", used of a person (poster) who thrives off stirring up other people. As in, "Please do not feed the energy creatures", Salon "TableTalk"-speak for "please ignore the conservative posters, they're just trying to vamp off your more advanced state of consciousness and bring you down to their level"..... of course, we do know that it tends to ruin liberals' day when someone points out to them that two plus two equals four, not the five they were hoping for.

Come on Johnnie, admit it, in the deepest recesses of your heart, you have to admire Hillary! for her sheer tenacity. Her recent transformation from a screeching, whiny policy wonk into some sort of undead street fighting pol putting the strong-arm to her enemies is the stuff of legends.

Man, I wish she was on our side - she would have no qualms about taking on the Iranians.

MoDo raises one interesting point: America has had either a Bush or a Clinton as president for twenty straight years. I don’t think America wants another one, which would mean a quarter of a century straight with one or the other running the country. No, I think the days of another Bush or another Clinton being president are over for quite some time to come.

Looking on the bright side, at least she isn't Amerindian. They're totally vulnerable. Guys drown in three inches of ditchwater every other year, up on the rez....

Let me say I have no more admiration for Shrillary than ole Joe Stalin. They both share similar lust for power and the capability of destroying anyone they think is a threat to it.

Like the Rat nominees’ idol, Saul Alinsky, I view both disciples of such a creed the greatest threat to our Republic.

The mere fact of trying to strong arm Super Politician Delegates to vote against the agreed upon rules of the primaries should be an indicator on the adherence to the rule of law and our Constitution.

For Shrillary, American values, tradition, and law are mere obstacles to overcome in her quest for unlimited power to lord it over us whether in business, as private citizens, etc.

Obama is as equally dangerous as he too is a disciple of the radical Saul Alinsky. But he might be more careful in disguising his tactics. Shrillary feels no limitation.

Look what she did to Billy Dale, the head of the Travel Office which was just a group of apolitical civil servants who served multiple Administrations.

On this poor civil servant, Shrillary turned the power of the FBI on this guy and tried to utterly destroy him. And for what? So she could install her own political hack nothing more.

And for that whim, she was more than willing to destroy that man’s life and the lives of the other Travel Office employees.

Think about it man.

I think Dowd's article is funny. She is revealing the plight of the Democrats. They really don't have a candidate that they like a lot, that inspires confidence, and that they can get behind with enthusiasm - unless they are doing so just based on race or gender. Otherwise, there is nothing there that either of them brings for the good.

Meantime, Hillary and Bill are so desperate to prove that they are not racist, have never been, and have always been in the corner for the blacks that I wouldn't be surprised if they would go black-face ala Al Jolsen and start singing "Swanee" in the last days of this campaign. (might be the only way left that Hillary can win, come to think of it!) Of course, all the while having their machine dig up more dirt on Obama and processing it to "sources" for distribution.

And...at this late date, Obama is trying very hard to find a way to identify with the common white, middle-class working man. Maybe he should ask Michael Jackson the name of his doctor who lightened his skin, to bring out his (Obama's)natural "whiteness," you know, the other 50% of his heritage that his pastor hates.

Now is the time to get on the Clinton bandwagon or be left cold and dead after they win. The Clintons have long memories and a desire for revenge. Hillary: The American Evita without the singing voice.

Hillary and Bill are so desperate to prove that they are not racist

They should be -- they've played the race card on Obama repeatedly, even doggedly, ever since before South Carolina, all the while insisting with typical Clintonesque brazenness that they are doing nothing of the sort, and that contrariwise it's Obama that is playing that card on them. [Clinton Lie Meter lurches into red, pegs out, falls over and breaks, bursts into flames.]

Of course, the black voters are voting as racistly (w?) as any Klan convention, and nobody this side of Neptune is calling them on it -- well, I did hear one AM talk-radio voice bring up Obama's hypermajorities in the black precincts, but that was about it. Everyone else in media is giving those turkeys a pass, like we owe them or something.

Seen the “Astro Turf” reference in several blogs; have yet to read enough to decipher.

Slick had himself an El Camino or similar, tricked out with a camper cap and Astro-Turf as a bed liner for quickies. Easy to wash down at the self-service car wash, you see. That was his trailer-trashy idea of a pickup ride, when he was soiling college with his presence.

I wanted to point out that Lucrezia was young and attractive, as opposed to Hill....

Compared to Hillary, Belfogar would be young and attractive.

And are the Bushes the Sforzas?
