A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 30% of the nations Likely Voters believe Barack Obama denounced his former Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, because he was outraged. Most58%--say he denounced the Pastor for political convenience. The survey was conducted on Wednesday and Thursday night. Obama made his statements about Wright on Tuesday.
Wright held a mini-media tour last weekend capped by a press conference at the National Press Club on Monday. Only 33% of voters believe that Obama was surprised by the views Wright expressed at Mondays press conference. Fifty-two percent (52%) say he was not surprised.
Fifty-six percent (56%) say its at least somewhat likely that Obama shares some of Pastor Wrights controversial views about the United States. That figure includes 26% who say its Very Likely Obama holds such views.

Nine percent (9%) of voters have a favorable opinion of Wright. I expected that number to be higher.

I think there were two reasons that Obama chose that church: 1) He agreed with the leftie pastor and 2) 10,000 church members probably meant 20,000 guranteed votes when he was running for office. Wright had to go under the bus because Obama has no further need of him.

I'm not necessarily sure Obama agreed with the church, per se. He was brought up by his white mother mostly outside the mainland US. He was not in places with a high percentage of aggrieved American blacks so he was probably not fed the "victimhood" mantra with his mother's milk.
In Chicago, his political problem has been that he's "not black enough". So he went and joined the most radical church he could find. I agree with you that what was once a political asset is now a liability and that's why he ditched JW.
If you listen to Chicago native Michelle O., it sound's she's the one who wholeheartedly supports JW. For all we know, she's the one that dragged him into that church to help solve his "not black enough" problem and to solve her problem of being married to a suspected Oreo. I'm waiting for her comments (or continued silence) on JW. Then we'll know. Anyone know how long MO has been attending that church? Before they were married?

If all people answered truthfully the number would have been much higher than 58%. Most Obama supporters, in the privacy of their own thoughts, know that Obama issued this denunciation out of political convenience. But of course they would never admit that they think that, not even as part of an anonymous poll. Don’t want to make The Magic Mullah look bad.

At one time the NAACP might have been a noble organization that accomplished good things, but it is now showing its true “colors” by its enthusiastic response to Rapper Wright.
