Oregon ready for Clinton, Obama spotlight
The Oregonian ^ | 5/6/2008 | ap

Posted on 05/06/2008 10:02:25 PM PDT by mdittmar

Now it's Oregon's turn.

With the Indiana and North Carolina primaries concluding Tuesday, presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will turn much their attention toward Oregon, allowing the state's more than 870,000 Democrats their moment in the primary spotlight.

Oregon is one of only a handful of contests remaining, and is perhaps the most competitive of the states that have yet to vote. Clinton is predicted to prevail in Kentucky, which also votes on May 20, while Obama is expected to win upcoming caucuses in South Dakota and Montana.

Most political analysts think Obama has the edge in Oregon, but Clinton increased her visibility in the state in recent weeks, and has already announced plans to return to the state on Thursday and Friday.

Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, recently went on a whistle-stop tour of small towns in the Willamette Valley.

Both candidates are advertising on television in Oregon, and have volunteers making phone calls, holding house parties and knocking on doors throughout the state.

Obama is expected to be strong in Portland, Eugene and Corvallis, but Clinton could chip away at his edge in the populous suburban counties, along the Oregon Coast and in the southern part of the state.

Nick Shapiro, a spokesman for Obama in Oregon, said the Illinois senator will make at least one more visit to the state, and details could be available as soon as Wednesday.

"He will convince people to get those last ballots in; he will meet directly with Oregonians to hear their concerns," Shapiro said.

Voters should expect an aggressive get-out-the-vote effort by both campaigns, since Oregon's unique vote-by-mail system means ballots can be turned in at any point from now until May 20.

I love Oregon also...from the eastern high desert to the Cascade mountain range to the lush valley to the spectacular coast. Just a gorgeous place to live!

Wish the politics were better but I basically just ignore the nuts.

Of course, there hasn’t been a non-moonbat Governor since Vic Atiyeh, and that’s going on near 22 years ago now.

Let’s hope Hillary pre-stages her voters there like she did in New Hampshire, not that it will do any good at this late stage, but I would rather have a corrupt criminal for President than a racist muzzy terrorist.

I’d prefer Obama win Oregon. In looking at the map on FNC showing the states won by Obama or Hillary. Obama won the Southern States, states that should mostly go to McCain. Many of the States won by Hillary, with some help from Rush, are states that are likely to go for McCain in the fall.

I think Obama would be much easier to beat than Hillary.

McCain will be in Oregon on the 12th (my birth date) but we are not paying $2000 to here him speak.

We will go see Hillary as we missed her last month.

Saw Obama (boring), talked to Bill (nice guy, minus is politics).

Bill has hardly any SS detail but Obama had many different details all over the place.

The SS guy with Bill was smokin’ hot.....
The SS guy next to us was really nice to talk to too...on the job but freindly.

King Vanity has enjoyed the political history of seeing all these people live and this old gal has enjoyed gawking at the hot detail guys.

Monmouths SS guy for Bill was the best in the handsome mode looked like the actor who played the bodyguard in the movie for the lil boy who was kidnapped and infected with a virus then returned to his folks to kill off his assinine political figure father.

County clerk called to verify because I put my BD on King Vanities registration slip (he makes his scribble/mark and they know that as it is on file and we are a small town)

But they had to check (they knew I made the boo boo)

Yeah, the Portland Mayors usually set the gold standard for “ultra moonbat.” I don’t think there has been a sane one in maybe a half-century. Long ago, those places actually used to be Republican bastions. :-\

Thats pretty much a given...although I am seeing a trend in yard signs developing in my surrounding neighborhoods; Hillary signs are appearing with greater frequency in homes owned by middle class blacks(or Afro Americans, or Negroes or whatever it is stylish to call them)while Obama signs are sprouting up in front of white middle class homes(most of which were bought for 3/4 million a pop and remodeled)...and Nader is due in state soon. Just my observations with a dash of investigation through tax and voter rolls.

Frank Ivancie was the last sane mayor and he was a Democrat...Darimund O’Scannlin was an up and coming Republican, but, he went to the 9th Circus Appellate Court. It has been ugly since then(Bud Clark, Vera Katz, and Tom Potter).

Here in Grants Pass I see two Hitlery signs, probably five Obama bumper stickers, NO McCain signs or bumper stickers, and everyone I know is going to either vote third-party or write in a candidate that supports our nation’s Constitution.

Hitlery was supposed to speak at the Jackson County Fairgrounds Thursday (after a $2,000/plate fund-raiser at the Mark Antony Hotel!) and we’re all going to protest her.

But they may cancel after Tuesday’s less-than-stellar Indiana results and the solid whuppin’ she took in North Carolina.

I’d heard of Ivancie but didn’t know much about him. Apparently the last Republican Mayor was the interim Mayor Connie McCready when the creep/pervert Neil Goldschmidt became Carter’s Transportation Secretary in 1979. 1952 was the last time a Republican won a full 4-year term (Fred Peterson). I wasn’t aware O’Scannlain had run for Mayor, I only knew him for his losing 1974 run for the suburban 1st district U.S. House seat (which had, until that point, gone 96 years without electing a Dem). We’ve never won it back.

I didn't mean to imply that O”Scanlon actually ran for mayor...it was one of the options he was looking at. The thinking then was that he would have a high visibility office from which to run for governor then the senate. Water under the bridge...now Portland is looking at electing a gay bully as mayor.
And Carter removing Goldschmidt from Portland was one of the only two good choices Carter ever made(the other being his concession speech).

I'm with you.

Supreme Court Justices and success in Iraq and Afghanistan override whatever shortcomings he has.

President Obama? Commander in Chief of America's armed forces Obama? Obama's appointees to the Supreme Court of the United States?

That's unthinkable.

Mayor Potter never gave a good reason why he isn't seeking a second term(He did have skin cancer last year)...Sho would probably be a better mayor, but, he is still very liberal. Jeff Taylor sounds the sanest of the bunch(even though he is still pushing for ferries across the Willamette).

>I think Obama would be much easier to beat than Hillary.

Sort of right.
The gist of this statement is definitely true, but either one will be very, very hard to beat.
Hillary would be impossible for McCain to beat. IMO.

Obama is possible to beat, but barely.
I have zero faith in the American electorate to do the right thing and the MSM is going to go full guns against McCain, 24/7.
The money will pour in for Obama. - McCain will be out-funded and outspent 2 or 3 to one.

And then there is McCain himself, and all of the people who are waiting for the magic independents and moderate Democrats to rush forth with support and votes.

Don't hold your breath.

Watch as McCain makes huge blunders. - I can't bear to watch the train wreck that is going to be played out in slow motion right here, starting with his slobbering pandering to La Raza.

Obama will continue to be ... Obama and that is painful itself, knowing that he is going to have the high track to this election and that McCain will have to slog to prevail in November by one state.

Frankly, I don't see it.

At least Sho has been in business. I think it is time to only elect people who have private sector experience before running for office. Too often those elected only know government which has its own peculiarity in thinking. Also, GOP has been out of power for so long in this state that I consider the GOP bench weak.

Hillary has done McCain the biggest favor.

The McCain team now knows which counties Hillary won. All McCain has to do is target these counties to win over 10% of disgruntled Hillary supporters.

Especially in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio and Florida.

I like your thinking, although I’m fairly sure that Pa isn’t going to stop its red trend, nor it’s two decades of tradition by voting McCain.
Seeing how my old county of Montgomery, Pa. just voted 51/49 Clinton/Obama makes me think that Pa is going to vote Obama in the fall.
But I will go there to see what I can do to help.

Ohio and Missouri are another matter altogether and your point is well taken.

Are you biking?

King Vanity (adult son) has a good old high school teach that does triathalons but biking is his thing.

Wonder if he is going too.

Pacific City is (coastal hills/traffic) just an hour North of us on a good day.

We go up to Chinook Winds for entertainment when King Vanity is up to it Cerebral Palsy intensity level wise.

Hoping he can go see Dave Anderson (comic that is a host on AMNorthewest KATU2)on his Birthday.

He has been overly excited physically since mid April....

I didn’t even change his calander to may so he wont track the days and be so overly stimulated.

Just the morning news saying the word Birthday when they do the happy birthday list get him breathing hard and body tone goes high....I pretend not to hear it so he will SIMMER DOWN.

Month prior to Christmas and B Day is always tricky around here to stay on the down low.

Enjoy the challenge if you are participating. Do you go for full body massage therapy post ride or just crash for a few days?
