Court denies Islamic divorce (Man's attempt to circumvent state law is rejected)

Saying "I divorce thee" three times, as men in Muslim countries have been able to do for centuries when leaving their wives, is not enough if you're a resident of Maryland, the state's highest court ruled yesterday.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeals rejected a Pakistani man's argument that his invocation of the Islamic talaq, under which a marriage is dissolved simply by the husband's say-so, allowed him to part with his wife of more than 20 years and deny her a share of his $2 million estate.

The justices affirmed a lower court's decision overturning a divorce decree obtained in Pakistan by Irfan Aleem, a World Bank economist who moved from London to Maryland with his wife, Farah Aleem, in 1985.

I find Moslems the most pushy group of people that I have ever met.

The militant homosexual movement is also very pushy. Wonder who will win when these two groups finally go head to head.

What! Jews have been pushed out of the first place of pushiness?

I keel you!

So, first, we’re taking it for granted that he’ll be elected, and next, we’re taking it for granted that he supports religious, and specifically Islamic religious, law?

not taking anything for granted just stating he is a socialist first and probably not religious as most are.

Why are you covering for this marxist muslim?

Note, this is a simple question not an attack.

I'm not "covering" for him. Most of the Democrats I know say they'll sit out the election if he's the nominee - so there are plenty of problems with him as a nominee without making things up.

I won't dispute that he's a marxist, but I'm wondering why FReepers are (1) taking for granted that he will be elected, (2) assuming he'll want to enact any kind of religious law -- that seems rather counter-productive for a Marxist, doesn't it? and (3) suggesting he's a Muslim when there's little or no evidence to suggest that, and a fair bit to suggest otherwise.
