LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A Missouri woman who prosecutors say used a fake MySpace persona to "torment, harass, humiliate and embarrass" a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide was indicted on Thursday on federal charges.
Lori Drew, accused of participating in a hoax on 13-year-old Megan Meier that led her to believe she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy, was indicted on conspiracy charges by a U.S. District Court jury in Los Angeles.
Meier had what she thought was an online friendship with the fictional boy, "Josh Evans."

Finally! This horrid woman needs to be locked up for a very long time (and perhaps “harassed” a little by her cellmates as well).

Good! I’m sure she didn’t mean for the girl to kill herself but what kind of adult does that to a junior high aged student? What a despicable thing to do.
Personally, I cannot see the pleasure one would get from tormenting another human being, whether physically or mentally.

Can’t read article, at work just popping in but I remember hearing on the news right after it became public she was getting death threats and people were throwing stuff at her house. Awwww, so sad!
It will be interesting to follow this case. Lori Drew is a scumbag.
I hope she gets some jail time. She has devastated that child’s parents. She probably won’t see the inside of a jail. I hope every penny she ever made or makes is taken from her.
I think that's probably why it took so long to see any movement on this.....Local prosecutors didn't know how to apply law to a case like this. It really needed to go to the feds for some kind of case law to be established. I'm not advocating the fed, but I believe this is going to be a part of standard law for the future of cyber-based crimes such as this.
She is the most hated person in America. She is in the most hated list besides Fred Phelps, David Cash Jr., Michael Crook, and John Walker Lindh. If she goes to jail, inmates will gladly go after her. They don’t look too kindly to scumbags who hurt and kill children.
Actually, from what I have previously read about this case and this woman, I have no trouble believing that her ultimate goal was to drive the child to suicide.

I read that she wanted to humilate Megan Meier in public. I read that Lori Drew is described by others as a mean, abrasive, clingy, and envious person. Not the kind of person I want to be around.
My thoughts as well...it will be interesting to see what ultimately comes of this.

Lori Drew is miserable scum, but I am dubious that a federal court, much less one in Los Angeles, has jurisdiction here. The theory is apparently that Drew committed wire fraud by misrepresenting “Josh”’s identity to MySpace. I am not sure that that charge will stick here.

I know what this woman did was terrible, but I wonder how it qualifies as a crime, federal or not. There are tons of spiteful comments which are continuously spewed through the Internet, so I’m not sure why her case is special.
I think that the best approachds for the case would be a civil suit against the perpetrator for harassment and the like.
