He can wear his uniform underneath and remove the rob following the ceremony.

No he can't. That would be a violation of MCO P1020.34F

“The student has learned far more about sacrifice than the members of the schoolboard.”

Any number of young men graduated during the years of WWII, and wore their uniforms. What’s the big deal about this young Marine wearing his?

>>I agree with the school. It is a simple way to try and preserve a smidgen of decorum and dignity. Perhaps he can change into his uniform immediately after the ceremony.

Excuse me, but as a member of the Armed Forces, he is required to wear the appropriate uniform at all times. Civilian clothes can only be worn, if a) on military leave at home or b) with CO’s express approval.

He has earned the right to wear EG&A and dress blues. School Board is outranked by CMC and DOD regulations.

Let the “dress code” be for those who would show up naked or in anti-war attire.

Seems to me the Marines are far more strict about uniform wear than you say (and those rules are FAR more idiotic).

This is much ado about nothing. I can appreciate the young Marine being proud of his accomplishment, but he needs to accept the decision, wear their required uniform for the ceremony and drive on.

I wore my dress uniform under my cap and gown when I graduated from college. Granted the Marine dress blues don't have a standard collard shirt and tie like my Army uniform, but he can work an easy solution for the ceremony.

He's getting to the point of drawing far too much unnecessary attention to himself.

MCO P1020.34-1005-7-f. No part of a prescribed uniform, except those items which are not exclusively military in character, will be worn with civilian clothing.

Chapter 1 is a punitive article, violations may be subject to prosecution under the UCMJ.

Shame on the school board. This young man is serving his country and putting his life on the line to protect their (and our) freedom. May they rethink this and allow the young man to wear his dress uniform. He is on active duty...

I think a mountain is being made out of a mole hill. The kid asked, the board said “no” and gave a reason why. Case closed.

Bringing the issue to light is the only way some folks are going to be perturbed enough to vote these elitist school board members out of a job.

Raise Hell about it and let them pay the price, or knuckle under and let them pass more stupid rules to the point they ban kids who graduate early from walking at graduation.

Wearing the cap and gown over the uniform is against Marine Uniform Regulations.

DING! DING! DING!
NO MORE CALLS PLEASE, WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!

Fact is he is ALREADY a Marine. According to the regulations he MUST abide by, he must be in full dress, utilities, or uniform of the day, unless on leave.

For me, I would be the proudest parent in the whole building to see my son, who made his choice to defend the nation, walk across that stage in his full dress uniform to accept a diploma.

its really a use descression. As a Marine of two years i would not think it was appropriate to wear the dress blue uniform to a high school graduation as a graduate. I think if he has someone that he should of gotten guidance from a recruiter or someone.

If you want to look at the regulation specifically then yes in that that way, you would be unable to wear the appropriate headgear in uniforn, covered in doors....

Bottomline he should of gotten guidance on it before he said anything to the school.
