Texas Megachurch Minister Drives 200 Miles to Have Sex With 13-Year-Old Girl
Short News ^ | 5.17.08

Texas: Plano man Joe Barron, 52, a minister at Prestonwood Baptist Church near Dallas, was arrested after driving nearly 200 miles to Bryan to meet who he thought was a 13-year-old girl he had been chatting with sexually online for roughly two weeks.

The girl was actually an undercover agent leading police to Barron and his car, inside of which they found condoms and a web-cam. He had been with the 26,000-member church for 18 months; they said this was the first incident of this type with Barron.

Executive pastor Mike Buster said, "We are disturbed and saddened by the reports we have heard and we are praying for the Barron family," adding that they are giving police their full cooperation. He is currently out on bond from Brazos County Jail.

I would like to see special penalties when a child in involved, because they are so vulnerable.

There was no child involved.

I checked it too since it’s in my town. Looked under Staff & Leaders but did not see this guy’s name so maybe they got him off the list real fast to avoid any bad publicity.

Thank you for answering this"Brother in Christ." Prestonwood has been my church home for years. It is undoubtedly NOT "Liberal" in any stretch of the imagination. Jack Graham was president of the Southern Baptist Convention for a number of years. He is a great teacher. The church is a bible believing bastion. No compromises. The way I like it!

Prestonwood has been there for thousands of people who have come to know Christ. I am one of those, Baptized in Jan. 1994. This situation is very sad. This guy needs to be put away for a very long time. However, it should not be used as a club to bash a perfectly Godly institution. Simply human fallibility on display.

That’s Prestonwood on Northwest Highway. This church is the campus in Plano - but I’m sure it’s just as ostentatious.

The pastor of Prestonwood, Jack Graham is a solid pastor and this is a good church. I am sure they are shocked and will bounce this dude on his tush.

Now the pastor before Graham, Billy Webber, was ousted for womanizing. That was 20 years ago.

Graham came in and did a good job.

The church should not get a black eye for this.

What was his job at the church?

I’ve heard he was in the counseling ministry. His title was ‘Minister to Married Adults III’

Gee, how come we Catholics never get the same consideration when one of our priests goes bad? Can you imagine what our fellow Christians (never mind the media) would have said if the US Conference of Catholic Bishops had dismissed our molester nightmare as simple "human fallibility on display"?

It is. The local term for it is “Six Flags Over Jesus”.

To use a corporate analogy, an Executive Pastor would generally be the Chief Operating Officer. HR, PR, and Facilities probably report to him. The Senior Pastor is more of a Chairman of the Board/CEO position.

Any Church that builds a Starbucks and a gym inside it’s holy walls makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

I don’t think Prestonwood was ever as far in as Northwest Highway. It started out near Beltline, moved out to Araphaho, and more recently relocated to far west Plano to an over 100 acre site on top of a hill, that dwarfs the old Dallas location. They have a branch campus up in Prosper, as well.

“It’s a liberal, modern church with rock music and a ‘come as you are’ attitude.”

No music makes a church liberal. Might actually make it somewhat interesting to the younger set.

And I believe that Jesus loves me no matter what I am wearing.
