As Clinton's candidacy fades, supporters' hope for equality fades with it

As Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton faded from Democratic presidential favorite to runner-up, Lynn Z. Tulumello and countless other women from coast to coast looked on, aching with a disappointment far greater than the one that comes with losing.

“I don’t want us to have this chance and for it to end with women looking at their daughters and saying, ‘If I had had a boy, he could have done anything,’ ” said Tulumello, a 47-year-old South Buffalo resident with two grown daughters. “I’m sure Hillary feels the same way.”

No doubt about it: Many women feel the same way.

As the first woman with a serious chance at the presidency has fallen behind a younger, less-experienced male candidate, many of her female supporters see not a failed candidacy, but a lost chance for women to solidify their place as equal players in U.S. society.

Some even say they see parallels between Clinton’s fate and their own, recalling times when they fell victim to the sexism that they believe has haunted and hurt the Clinton campaign.

In interviews and on the Internet, they’re making it known that they’re angry — and some say they will take out their anger on the man who stood between Clinton and the White House: Sen. Barack Obama.

“If Obama is the nominee, I’m going to switch my registration to independent,” said Deborah Gilels, a media consultant in Los Angeles. “I’ll vote for John McCain.”

Political scientists say voters like Gilels are an important part of Democratic primary voters who, in exit polls, say they will vote for McCain, the Republican candidate, or not vote at all in the fall.

Yeah! YOU GO GIRL!! I've seen women on "The O'Reilly Factor" and heard a woman on Sean Hannity's Radio Broadcast say that women supporting Hillary are uniting to dump the Democratic Party if Hillary does not get the nod.

O.K., raise your right hand if you think they'll follow through on this? No one; thought so.

Is it any wonder that so many young girls are screwed up? Their mothers, who grew up reading about another generation of women burning their bras, etc., have made no progress and are no smarter than their icons from the ‘60s. They are all just running in place while their daughters seek out therapists and a “hidden” camera to strip for.

Who are these dumb a$$ women? I have 4 very successful daughters highly educated managing children husbands and careers. They sure as hell didn’t need a woman president to get there nor do they want to see a Hillary Clinton in the White House. What a bunch of losers Clinton supporters are.

Oh. So, Chelsea is being told that she cannot run for President and win if her mom loses this race.

That's emotionally abusive.

Sad to say, but some people on this board are sorry to see Hillary go down in flames. They were planning on voting for her against McCain

I on the other hand will be dancing and sipping on a 20-year old wine when she finally ends her campaign - hopefully next week. Ding dong the wicked witch......

I entered the business world as a female stockbroker in the mid-70's. There was a lot of opposition to women in that profession at the time.

I never cried "sexism", neither should hillary.

We are judged by our performance, not our gender.

My beloved Buffalo is gaga for Hillary. The Buffalo News could print her dry cleaning receipts and its circulation would go up. It’s not easy living behind enemy lines.

"why women would identify with Hillary"

Only some do.

That would be the perpetually aggrieved, sour-faced, saggy-titted, old commie lesbians.

Commonly known as "Feminists"

Me too, but-I refuse to believe the Clinton era is finally over until she cries and gives her concession speech-NOT one second before.

Chill out mimaw! We know the Clinton gals are a bunch of old, hag feminists, but hey, if they can stir up enough chaos in the Dem ranks to cause Obama to lose the election, cut ‘em some slack.
