IOWA REMINDS DEMS WHITES WILL BACK BARACK

DES MOINES, Iowa - Barack Obama shied away from triumphantly proclaiming total victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton last night, but he certainly annihilated the central reason she gives for staying in the race.

The Clinton team claims that Sen. Obama is nothing more than a black candidate with a sidecar of liberal academics.

This is why, the Clintons argue, white Democrats in working-class and rural states simply can't pull the lever for this black guy with a foreign-sounding name.

And, the Clinton's implied reasoning goes, since she appeals so much to these racist white Democrats that are the "backbone" of the party, she would make a much better nominee against Republican Sen. John McCain.

So what about the claim that because of opposition from working-class white Democrats, Obama can't win in November?

It is hard to imagine that the hostility of these white voters would be quite so stark had Sen. Clinton not spent the past four months campaigning on precisely this schism.

No mention of all the primaries in which Hillary’s claim has proved correct.

Sorry. A state that repeatedly elects Tom Harkin and Chuck Grassley to the U.S. Senate is NOT a reliable bellwether for how ordinary, bitter, religion-clinging, gun-loving, hard-working whites will vote.

We know a little more about Barry now. He’s had a chance to tell us what his plans are. Things have changed since Iowa.

Barry will probably have trouble in Iowa in the election.

A. The election was before anyone knew Obama

B. Iowa is the most ridiculous state to vote first

The Iowa caucus happened well before Obama’s connections to black supremacists like his own Rev. Wright and terrorists was known.

Oregon is the only state Obama has won with a wide margin since Hillary's surrogates planted those stories in the MSM.

I’m sick of all this white/black crap. I’ll vote for a person with absolutely no interest in any white/black/man/woman crap. Enough! We are going to be called racist if Obama loses, and sexist is Clinton loses.
I’m fed up with it! I would have voted for Alan Keyes in a heartbeat.

IMO it’s a mistake to assume that the IA caucus results are representative of how white voters feel about Bambi. The IA caucuses are public; everyone in the room knows how you vote. People have been known to behave differently in the privacy of a voting booth vs. when their vote is known to others. The Bradley effect is a good example of this.

Hold a primary in Iowa and see if Obama wins. I agree.

Obama's inspired choice of venue last night - Des Moines - reminded everyone that once upon a time before the Wright and Ayers fiascos, rural and working-class white Democrats were pretty eager to get behind him as an agent of complete change in Washington.

Here in Iowa, where blacks make up less than three percent of the population, Democrats in January before the Wright and Ayers fiascos overwhelmingly chose an untested black man over the well-known Queen of the Party.

There, fixed it

20,000 votes in Iowa. Barack CAN get SOME whites to vote for him, especially the really liberal ones. He’s got the anti-war, radical vote, and the liberal white guilt vote.

His problem is with the working class middle-american democrat white vote. He does well where they aren’t a big factor, like Oregon, and where the Dems use a caucus, since they can overcome the opposition with the more-involved and often under-employed liberal whites.

Iowa was a caucus state, not a primary state. Hillary’s supporters were less able to take the time than the collection of students and other academics who make up Obama’s base.

Of course Iowa voted BW. Before Wright.

And, as I recall, was at a time when the consensus that Hillary! could not win the general. Voters flocked to the alternative, an unvetted B-HO.
