MOSCOW (Reuters) - Communist party members in St Petersburg on Friday condemned the new Indiana Jones' film as crude anti-Soviet propaganda that distorted history and called for it to be banned from Russian screens.
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" stars Harrison Ford as an archeologist in 1957 competing with an evil KGB agent, played by Cate Blanchett, to find a skull endowed with mystic powers.
"What galls is how together with America we defeated Hitler, and how we sympathized when Bin Laden hit them. But they go ahead and scare kids with Communists. These people have no shame," said Viktor Perov, a communist party member in Russia's second city.
The comments were made at a meeting of the local Communist party and posted on its Internet site www.kplo.ru.
"Our women don't look like Nazis, but maybe Cate Blanchett was threatened by unemployment, so ... she made this film," Perov said.
The film, the fourth in the hugely successful Indiana Jones series, went on release in Russian cinemas on Thursday. Russian media said it was being shown on 808 screens, the widest ever release for a Hollywood movie.
"Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett (are) second-rate actors, serving as the running dogs of the CIA. We need to deprive these people of the right of entering the country," said another party member, Andrei Gindos.
"The film is low-quality and would raise a smile if there wasn't a danger of drawing into its orbit teenagers who know nothing about the 1950s," Vladimir Mukhin, another member, said in comments on the Internet site.
Mukhin said he would ask the Culture Ministry to ban the film for its "anti-Soviet propaganda."
"Indians and aliens unite with Jones and his untrustworthy buddies to save the world from a Russian threat - what rubbish, simply a paranoid Churchillian fantasy," Mukhin said.
Good to hear. When I saw when this one was set, I thought for sure Stevie Spielberg was going to make the Americans the bad guys this time.
I hope you vote for the candidate that best represents your principles. That is what I’m going to do.
The votes determine the outcome. I will not vote for the candidate that someone tells me is most likely to win. I think that gives way too much power to the media and the pundits.
Have a nice day,

It depends I’d think. I originally agreed with that.
A U-Boat only has 24 hours of oxygen. They would HAVE to surface somewhere on the way home.
IF they were afraid of being spotted, they might submerge, but would they travel the entire ocean back then underwater?
I don’t see McCain as being strong on the first amendment but he is no weaker than the other two Marxists.
Here in Texas we had a governor’s race entirely run of Democrats or “former” Democrats. Even the RINO governor was a former Dem.
My first goal was to see that the Democrat who ran under the DNC banner was NOT the victor. I didn’t vote for the RINO but if the race had been closer I would have. I voted for Kinky Friedman instead. People tell me that he was the wrong candidate. Not out of the bunch of losers we had. I would have accepted him winning and if he had put in for a legitimate run at a point, he could have run a viable independent campaign. There were a number of high profile independent candidates.
One of the three McCain, Obama, or Clinton WILL be our next president. No one has anywhere near the money or the campaign appearances at this point to run a victorious challenge.
You read that book at a much younger age than I did (I’m guessing around 38) but it did have a profound impact. Thank God for President Reagan, Prime Minister Thatcher and Pope John Paul II for ending the Soviet empire. Unfortunately, it appears we may have to fight that battle again sometime, perhaps in your lifetime. Let’s hope another Reagan is growing up and reading about this awful history.
Catherine the Great only partially westernized Russia, but it never took.
We won, you damn dirty commies. Suck on it.

Good list...could I add one more?

I'm hardly what you would call a kid and Communists still scare me. :-)

That dosen’t mean that any of them has earned my vote.
BTW - if everyone voted only for candidates that earn their votes, we will likely have a better government within a few election cycles.
Thanks for the heads-up. Depressing. I hope Indy doesn’t end up kissing the Red villainess.
Could not blame old Indy for giving her that extra thousand foot of stropping... on her rapier, of course!
Communists don’t like Cate Blanchett?

It would have been just as easy to use a German freighter to transport the Ark instead of a U-Boat which would be impossible for Indy to stow away on for any length of time either on the surface or especially submerged.
It never ceases to surprise me that all these so called great filmmakers of today like Spielberg cannot just use common sense in their films. But then again, most of them being Liberal Democrat minded, it should be no surprise they have no common sense at all.

Nope, the seven year old called them on that too. He turned off Temple of Doom and plugged in an old "COMBAT!" TV series episode in its place.
Ah, the Marxist way ... don’t criticize my ears because it hurts my feelings; don’t criticize my wife for saying really stupid things; don’t criticize my pastor for being a left-wing loony and racist; don’t judge me by who I associate with ... only elites get to say what they want.
The rest of you hand in your guns and your Holy Bibles, right now!!
BTW I like your tagline!
And try not to puke. You may have to lie in it for a long time.
I think America is entitled to freedom from Obama (or Hillary).
