"... what about the soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Cav that relieved his first battalion (1/7 CAV)? They were ruthlessly slaughtered by these same folks. Nothing can forgive the war crimes committed against 2/7th CAV. To forgive that would be the equivalent of forgiving the Bataan Death March perpetrators."

I agree. I don't get or approve of the whole "kum-bah-yah" gist of this article or even the attitude of General Moore. How can he embrace them? These guys were the ENEMY! Screw'em all.

I have been to Arlington five times in the last two and a half years. Every time I go there, I try and remember the words of George S Patton:

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

I thank God everyday that such men lived.

God bless all those who gave some and God bless all those who gave all.

NEVER FORGET

Indeed...
...some really do selflessly, and so very lovingly, give all they have to give for the well being of others.

I like this picture:

Wow! I've heard bits and pieces of that story, but your link was the best account I've ever seen. Particularly amazing is the role Douglas MacArthur played in getting that phamplet printed and distributed:

Meanwhile, Gen. Douglas MacArthur had sent a message via his staff chaplain to the president of the Bible Meditation League (now known as Bible Literature International). MacArthur asked the league to print something that might help heal the wounds between Japan and the United States. The league printed 1 million pamphlets of DeShazer's testimony, I Was A Prisoner of Japan, for distribution throughout the country.

MacArthur's righteous occupation is still universally respected by the Japanese who lived during that era. I had the honor of touring his office on the top floor of the Dai-Ichi Financial Building in Tokyo some years ago. The role which MacArthur and his love of Christianity played in turning one of our most bitter enemies into one of our most steadfast allies in such a short time in unequaled in the annals of history.
