Jimmy Carter says Israel had 150 nuclear weapons

Former US President Jimmy Carter breaks nuclear taboo and continues to push for direct negotiations with Iran's leaders

Israel has 150 nuclear weapons in its arsenal, former President Jimmy Carter said yesterday, while arguing that the US should talk directly to Iran to persuade it to drop its nuclear ambitions.

His remark, made at the Hay-on-Wye festival which promotes current affairs books and literature, is startling because Israel has never admitted having nuclear weapons, let alone how many, although the world assumes their existence. Nor do US officials deviate in public from that Israeli line. Carter, who has immersed himself since his presidency in Israeli-Palestinian relations, was highly critical of Israeli settlers on the West Bank, and of Israel's refusal to talk to elected officials of the Islamic party Hamas, although he said that Israel's security was his prime concern.

Carter, whose presidency was dominated by the 444-day siege in which Iran held 52 American diplomats hostage, said "my advice to the US would be to start talking to Iran now" to persuade it to drop its nuclear work. But he cited Israel's nuclear arsenal - and those of the US, Russia, China, Britain and France - in arguing that Iran would find it almost impossible to develop, in secret, many weapons and the missiles to deliver them.

To borrow and paraphrase an example from President Reagan:

The Israeli and American governments possess the world's greatest firepower to absolutely annihilate the enemies of freedom and democracy, yet they have exercised an amazing sense of restraint, diplomacy and good judgment for decades.

Now, can Carter make the same claim and analogy about restraint, diplomacy and good judgment had the Communists or Islamic terrorists possessed the same nuclear arsenal over the past several decades?

Carter and his ilk are DANGEROUS FOOLS for proposing any similarity to Israel and Iran in the discussion of nuclear weapons.

Another stink bomb from one of our worst-ever Presidents (and most certainly our worst-ever EX-President!).

Carter wants to increase pressure on Israel. That is loathsome beyond belief. Israel’s nukes are obviously only for deterrence and the ultimate self-defense, since they have never been used despite multiple wars in which Israel was seriously threatened with grave harms, surrounded by Arab/Muslim armies bent on its destruction.

Why bring it up now, and in this way? Because the vile Jimmy Carter is trying to create a lever with both Iran and Israel can be pressured by an “international community” also intent upon getting Israel to renounce and abandon nuclear weapons. Iran, unlike Israel, has not the slightest self-defense justification for nukes — it has no neighbor who can possibly threaten its survival or even hurt it very severely. Israel, OTOH, is continually facing existential threats that could grow out of control (although the IDF and IAF to date keep thrashing the far more populous neighbors).

Jimmy Carter, anti-semite, is once again trying to undermine Israel’s security, just as he sought to do with his vile “Apartheid” book that smears Israel and seeks to increase international pressures on Israel.

Eat camel s##t, Jimmy Carter..... that’s all you’re good for.

Just saying...

If Israel would STOP SELLING AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY TO CHINA.

We could perhaps, talk.

As things stand now, Israel seems like a (massive) security risk, in every way imaginable.

All that seems required for Israel to sell our secrets ... is ... money.

What could be a more precise definition of TREASON.

The commies *did* and *do* have nuclear arsenals sufficient to end the world several times over. Even crazy Kimmy hasn't decided to wipe himself out yet.

Dictators are quite rational, they're just not very nice.

NO. Israel has sold our current military techology *more than once* to the Communists ruling China.

Go ahead.

Make excuses! Rosenburg.

If they had given secrets that mattered they would have been chastised long ago.

Trust in the skunkworks and other hi-tech industries.

Israel is well aware of exactly what out-dated tech they can make a profit from.
