Tidal Cycle Could Amplify Global-warming Related Sea-level Rises

ScienceDaily (May 24, 2008) — The results of several scientific studies conducted since 1993 have confirmed a 3.2 cm sea level rise. Although this variation might appear negligible, it has in fact turned out to be twice as high as that recorded over the whole of the previous century. This increase in sea level is a consequence of global warming. When sea temperature rises, the sea expands and therefore occupies a greater volume. This phenomenon is now well known to scientists, but other processes that have received less research attention, such as the tidal cycle, seem to contribute at global scale just as much to changes in sea level.

A team coordinated by IRD scientists compared a series of satellite images collected at regular intervals over 20 years to measure the contribution of the bidecennial tidal cycle on global sea-level variations. In the first phase of the study, the scientists focused on the 350 km of French Guianan coastline found to be highly suitable for observation of the phenomenon. This is a virgin region completely unaffected by any human activity and bears the certainty that the slightest change observed in the geomorphology of that coast is natural in origin. The geographical zone is moreover covered by an ecosystem of mangroves whose coastal fringe reacts almost immediately to fluctuations in marine conditions.

The joke is on us and our wallets; local surface effects aside, the bulk ocean temperature rise is not found when measured. NPR reported it as a "mystery", The Mystery of Global Warming's Missing Heat. There is no mystery, the Global Warming zealots are wrong. Apparently, NPR can report the data but dare not utter the politically incorrect conclusion.

How many decades would it take to raise the temp of the vast volume in the oceans 1 degree?

What utter nonsense :
... it has in fact turned out to be twice as high as that recorded over the whole of the previous century...
Who did that? Where did they measure? How can you measure such a thing? What about waves?
Two inches difference versus one inch over the previous 100 years?
YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID!!!

Good! That means I won’t have to have my channel dredged to be able to get in and out from the dock with my sailboat then.

We have property on a tidal inlet that dries to a trickle at low tide. We'd welcome a 1/4 to 1/2 meter rise.

After viewing their web-site, it's very obvious that they are totally devoted to global warming and very little else.

For a so-called "science" news outlet to preach the ridiculously unproven global warming theory as though it were gospel makes their publication's name an oxymoron.

Insignificant even if real data, and twice as high as even less significant and nonexistent data.

Ice-cold snow monkeys could fly out of Algore’s butt.

That would be more fun to watch, and equally likely to happen in my judgment.

Nah.

I'll grant them the use of “averages” and “tidal averaging” to smooth out the waves and lunar-solar-Jupiteroil effects..... (At least, I'll hope they get those right.)

But the drop in seacoast elevation is unknown - some land areas are rising, some falling. We “hope” that this mangrove area is stable. It might not be.

Overall however, the 1/2 of ONE degree rise in atmospheric temperature since 1970 “might” have increased ocean temperature by a somewhat lessor amount: but 1/2 of one degree itself won't change water density very much.

To assume a 3.4 centimeter rise is a bit of a stretch, since they are attributing it SOLELY to global warming by the words in the article.
