Campaign question-4: Hillary's (no) exit strategy
SFGate: The Ross Report ^ | 5/27/8 | Andrew S. Ross

Posted on 05/27/2008 10:16:19 AM PDT by SmithL

On the night of the North Carolina and Indiana primaries, I was asked by a British radio station whether, for all intents and purposes, the Democratic race was over. I said I thought it was -- there was no way neither around the math nor the cast-iron direction in which the superdelegates were trending. "The only question," I told my interviewer,"is how Sen. Clinton will go down -- graciously or ugly."

Like most everyone else, I thought it would be the former. That at the end of the day (June 3), the two quarrelsome sides would sit around the camp fire and sing kumbaya -- or, as we did as kids in England, "make up and play 'hunter'" (a rather more innocent version than that recently referenced by a certain evangelical pastor).

Now, I am not so sure. Perhaps the statements that have long been coming out of the Clinton campaign -- including the candidate's own (apparently now with "God's blessing") -- that the fight may go on through the summer, should be taken at face value.

Add to that the numbers game being played -- no, the winning number is not 2025, it's 2210, or the situational ethics being applied to Bill Clinton's famous maxim about working hard and playing by the rules when it comes to the Florida and Michigan primaries.

Mix in the various other manifestations of desperation and reality-denial, and is it not at least legitimate to suggest that things could indeed turn rather ugly?

At the very least it's feeling weird, that we're watching an implosion, the fallout from which is somewhat unpredictable.

Why should she quit now? She already warned everybody about Obama not making it through June.

LOL!

Actually, some mischeivious reporter should have some fun with it.

Ask her if you don’t even have a viable exit strategy from your Presidential campaign, then how can America trust you about having a viable exit Strategy from Iraq?

Then that reporter should avoid Fort Macy Park.

And Obama should avoid back of the pickup trucks.

It will likely be over soon, but the last 2 months (or so) have been mighty entertaining.
I was afraid of “Operation Chaos” at first, but the past several weeks, I agree it is genius.

The longer it goes without BHO securing the needed superdelegates, the more her position improves. And what about MI and FL? Actually, she has a strong argument - that she does better in the key swing States that the Dems need. I don’t think she’ll concede until BHO actually has the needed number.

She already warned everybody about Obama not making it through June.

She's gone further than that...

And Obama should avoid back of the pickup trucks.

And avoid parks. People have a strange tendency to commit suicide in parks.

Turn ugly?

Why the extreme aversion to conflict? Was 1952 ugly? Was 1964 ugly? When the Democrats got to the 75th ballot in 1924, it wasn't ugly - it was just politics.

When did Americans become such pussies?

Hillary has a very strong arguement. However who wants to anger the black voters by throwing Obama to the back of the bus.

The democrats cannot win without strong black support in many key states!

With the baby boomers/yuppies. The most self-centered, gutless,selfish,no-compromise ‘my way or the highway’ generation in the history of the country. The Clinton’s generation. There are exceptions, but as a whole....

Andrew S. Ross needs a lesson in English. Graciously is an adverb and ugly is an adjective. He needs to say “uglily,” or “in an ugly way.” He must be a mainstream media “journalist.”

And mine. You can negotiate with Boomers, and with the cynical members of Generation X who were raised in the '70s.

Never appeal to a man's "better nature." He may not have one. Invoking his self-interest gives you more leverage. - Robert A Heinlein
The ones I can't get a handle on are the "Flower Children", born in the early 60s, between the end of the Baby Boom and the start of Generation X.

Buncha hippies, with their "feelings", they are likely to go with any "Yes we can" cause that appeals to their sense of "bringing us together"
