Nutley PD accused of brutally terrorizing resident

NUTLEY - A woman is speaking out against the Nutley Police Department, claiming the people paid to protect have been victimizing her instead.   Donna Koeppel says she's still haunted by memories of being brutalized by two Nutley officers last year. According to Koeppel's story, she called the authorities after several men began removing paving blocks from her backyard, tearing up the lawn. The men told her they were under orders by her neighbor, a Newark cop she has had a long running feud with.

Koeppel claims two officers arrived and handcuffed her. When she asked why she was being arrested, the officers allegedly began to curse at her and kicked her cane out from under her. Koeppel needs the cane due to a painful and debilitating disorder that has required her to undergo surgery.

The woman says her nightmare then turned into a humiliating affair. According to Koeppel, an officer hit her in the back, causing her to wet herself. She was then taken to jail, allegedly being forced to leave her 3-year-old diabetic daughter alone in the house.   "It was horrible," says Koeppel. "I was treated like an animal, and I did nothing but call for help."

Nicholas Labruno, her husband, insists the harassment hasn't stopped and has caused the family to live in fear.  "We look behind us every day," says Labruno.  The Nutley town attorney has released a statement saying no wrongdoing has been done by the department.

And the article stated the reason for the Police torture: “This very same neighbor/cop was having construction work done on his home, without the required permits. Then he falsified the signatures of his own neighbors, in an attempt to obtain a variance from the Township.”

Looks as though the SS and KGB are in full swing. Why are the Feds not looking into this and putting them in jail? Must be Democrats.

I am not a skeptic. In some cases it has been noted that some cops fabricate evidence to justify their existence, even getting promotions in the process. The thin blue wall of silence further contributes to this culture.

So why did they kick her cane out?
Why did they arrest her and take her to the station?
What frightened her so that she wet herself?
Why is there reference to a 3 year old being left alone for the trip to jail?

If half of this is true, which we’ll probably never know, you tell me when is it OK for a LEO to have such attitude problems? And dont bother describing how tough all their OTHER jobs are and how they are hated, blah blah blah.

Stick to this article and defend these leos actions if you can.

Koeppel - who suffers from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (http://www.hmc.psu.edu/healthinfo/r/rsd.htm), a debilitating condition that causes severe pain that can last a lifetime - was kneed in the back during the incident, rupturing a pain-killing cylinder surgically implanted into her spine, causing it to break.

You are reading one side of the complaint. What if you found out later, as happens often, that the complaint was exaggerated or even full of lies. Why immediately consider them guilty until you hear all the facts.

I agree this article makes the Police look bad, but its so full of far fetched allegations it begs to be investigated further.

My point was and is that people like you evidently on FR always side against the police no matter what. If there were no cops you would bitch about the lawlessness.

I work around them daily and see many many good hard working honest people do thier jobs in situations many people wouldnt be able to.
