Children of older fathers have greater risk of early death

Children of older fathers have greater risk of early death

Men, listen up. No longer can you comfort yourselves with the notion that you can father a child at any time...

Children of older fathers more 'likely to die early':

LONDON: When it comes to fertility and the prospect of having babies, it has always been assumed that men have no biological clock — unlike women, they can father a child late in their life. But a study has dispelled this myth.

Researchers in Europe have found that children are almost twice as likely to die before adulthood if they have a father over the age of 45 years, a key finding they claim is linked to the declining quality of sperm as men age.

Scientists reveal dangers of older fathers

Scientists believe that children of older fathers are more likely to suffer particular congenital defects as well as autism, schizophrenia and epilepsy. The study was the first of its kind of such magnitude in the West, and researchers believe the findings are linked to the declining quality of sperm as men age.

No more waiting and waiting, assuming that at age 43, you can marry a 28-year-old hottie who will bear you many strong sons.

No more cult of perpetual youth (as was so evident in my erstwhile town of Los Angeles).

Western civilization is facing a serious demographic crisis. For the Love of crumbcake, be fruitful and multiply!

My wife and are are half-guilty of this ourselves. We met in our late 30s, and we've managed one child. Unfortunately, certain circumstances have made it so that we can't have any more. This means we failed in our responsibility to replace ourselves.

Don't make our mistake. Make babies now!

Gee, so does this mean I should have gotten knocked up in my teens rather than wait until I was married, financially solvent and emotionally mature? And here I thought I was being responsible by waiting until I was 35 to become a parent.

Come to think of it, my dad was 52 when I was born. I'll be 40 this September, guess I better get my affairs in order...Shame... I would have liked to have seen Montana.

Older I get, the closer they get. I will take that to the grave. They will carry me. Fair enough.

TAG! YOU'RE IT!

Ya gotta love family. They're the only ones within sniping distance.....

I have never admired a man near or at Grandpa age deliberately fathering a child - because it is very very likely he will not be a father to a child.

I think fathers are indispensable. So I’m not coming from a feminist baloney perspective.

We have no guarantees in this life, but, if you are 70, it would be really strange if you are up for parenting a teen once you are 85, if you are even still alive. I know it’s possible, but the odds are huge against you.

Also it’s highly likely that the baby has no living grandparents. While not as indispensable, they are very valuable in many ways.

The child is almost certain of having a totally abnormal family life from the beginning. A lonely one, too.

I wouldn’t put a baby in a hang glider. I wouldn’t attempt to start a new life when I am 70 either. Sure, the baby MIGHT be ok, but why play with a human life so coldly?

I would say that having an older father is better than having no father at all.

“Don’t make our mistake. Make babies now.”

My wife is almost 60 and I’m 63 and she is having a hard time getting pregnant at this time but with your good wishes, I will just keep trying.

Children of older fathers...

My father is older than me, so I guess I'm in trouble.

“it will be feminism that brings human cloning”

As long as they don’t clone the feminists. We have too many of them now, and they’ve done way too much damage to American society.

One study does not make a myth out of the previously held concept nor does it disprove anything. Repeatable and independent large scale studies that show the same results might but one study is no more scientific than global warming.

Practice makes perfect. First... coat the doorknob with axle grease.... to keep the kids out. Second. Lose the phone. Get a labrador. They WILL eat phones.

Third.... PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

The world needs more tricycle motors.

Ensure and vitamin B helps me....

My best friends family is like that. Her parents had 4 older kids, and then 3 younger ones. Her mom couldn’t go to one of her daughter’s wedding because the mom was pregnant with my best friend.

I will say that the whole family is very smart, and didn’t have any problems.

I’m curious as to why there are so many children with autism now, and I do wonder about older parents having something to do with it. Maybe some of the parents of autistic kids could chime in on this one. I’m sure they’d have a better opinion about the matter.

Women are born with the only set of eggs they will ever have. Yes, age is going to make a difference in the viability of eggs and the children produced from them. Men produce new sperm all of the time which should not be affected by age if the man is healthy.

“Children of older fathers have greater risk of early death”

My “Bio-Dad” was 18. Dammit I’m gonna live to 90 unless Jesus comes back first.

Any time now Lord, any time now.

If you made it to adult hood then you are safe. This article is talking about men over 45 that have kids. They supposedly have a double chance of not making it to adulthood than those born to younger dads. What they failed to take into account is the age of the mother when the kid was born which could have a lot to do with this as well. As matter of fact, the age of the mother probably has much more to do with this than the age of the father. So unless all these men had kids with women in their 20s then this study is piratically meaningless.

Well good for you!

Meanwhile, I’m sitting here looking at my sleeping 11-year-old son as I type this, and thinking about getting together with my other son, R.Jr., and his boys. R. Jr. is 39; both of my boys seem pretty healthy to me!

It’s a buncha’ bunk.

Daddys can be any age. Just as long as they’re there during the important years. 90 might be a little late.

ENJOY!!!
