Jeremiah Wright, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ where Pfleger made the fiery statements late last month that got him into this latest donnybrook with the cardinal, waited to take him to a late dinner. "I'm trying to find out what [George] means by 'a couple of weeks.' There's no timeline. There's no date. Give me a time. It just says a couple of weeks. I don't know . . . "
There's something painfully ironic about Pfleger's (if temporary) ouster.
He's been thumbing his nose at authority -- secular and sacred -- for years in pursuit of what he believes God has called him to do: fight for the poor and the oppressed; battle injustice in whatever form it appears, be it racism, sexism, or classicism; and to above all present the God of revolutionary love and radical grace to the world around him. That sometimes has meant disobeying civil and canon law.

The Church’s history contains the stories of thousands of clergy that thought that they knew better than the Church did.
Some of them came back, like Augustine. Some didn’t.

Mr. Pfegler hasn't been preaching the Gospel, Christ, or the Bible. He's merely used the Church as a tool for his own pet projects - social activism, and preaching a god of his own devising...It is high time that the Church gave him the boot.
Preachers have one job: to Preach Christ Crucified. Pastors certainly are to minister to their flock in whatever manner they can (aid, comfort, guidance, etc) - but preach Christ - not politics.
