Why LIMITED?

I'm not calling the shots. And Tehran should be mighty glad of that. ;-)

You have been looking for your socks for the last four years...

I think they're in Iran.

High winds and all, y'know.

Where’s that Iraqi Air Force? Shouldn’t THEY be making the “limited” strikes?

I have to agree with that. IMHO, we ought to team up with Israel and take out what needs to be taken out. The Muslim world respects force and the willingness to use it. Thats about it.

Never happen......**unless** we're prepared to go to full-scale war with Iran because if we launch a limited attack the 9th Century knuckledraggers in Tehran will go bananas. If they do,some of their missiles (or maybe most of them) will be headed to Israel and the Israelis will certainly know what to do if *that* happens.

Because this US assault is not planned to extend to Iran’s nuclear installations,...

Then what's the point??? Poke a finger in Iran's eye without touching their nuke plants? Of course this is DEBKA...

“Iran’s Armed Forces are fully prepared to counter any military attack with any intensity and to make the enemy regret initiating any such incursions.”

Oh, how I'd love to see us kick a**... Unfortunately, Debka's never right.

Just my humble guess that at the time of the surge and that weak Natl Intelligence Estimate, Gates got the administration to secretly promise no attack on Iran in return for Iran vastly reducing activity in Iraq. We do need to stabilize Iraq first, there may be a grand strategy here to peel Sunni Syria away from Iran, stabilize Iraq and avoid war with Iran.

Good guess. That is basically what I postulated at the time the surge started having an effect.

Sigh. How many predictions of attacks on Iran have been made? Don’t bother me until the bombs are falling. And where has Bush learned how to make war in his second term? LBJ? Limited attacks, sending messages and all that. What happened to victory?

I think that is what Pelosi is tying into with her comment about Iran’s “good will”. Of course there is no good will involved but I think she’s trying to let the cat out of the bag on what she knows or suspects.

What a load of BS.If the U.S. is going to attack Iran it won't be limited. If it is it will only delay the inevitable.

Once Iran gets those Nukes she's building you can almost guarantee she'll be giving them to every terrorist group she sponsors and they will be used. Here as well as in Israel.

Its better to have an unlimited attack on Iran's military and strategic targets, especially her nuclear facilities than allow her to threaten civilization with destruction.

What happened to victory?

If you could have seen Iraq four years ago and could see it now, you'd see victory.

Sigh. How many predictions of attacks on Iran have been made? Don’t bother me until the bombs are falling.

I didn't even post this thread, nor did I ping anybody to it. I merely dissed the source. I'm all for going after Iran.

Two interesting reasons:
1 - A limited strike against border sites might provoke an over-reaction from Iran, giving justification to strike further targets, including their nuclear sites. An interesting way to bypass political restrictions on a direct strike against nuclear facilities.
2 - Just leaking this information may have caused a defensive pullback from border sites, creating a lull or at least a delay in Iranian support inside Iraq that could be taken advantage of.

What a load of BS.

Pretty much what my post said. Perhaps I was too subtle in my disdain for DEBKA?

Hmmm, every target is not deserted, sounds like a success without firing a shot!
