Vice President Dick Cheney threw a verbal insult at West Virginians on Monday, but quickly apologized. Talking about his family roots and how he's distantly related to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the vice president noted that he had Cheneys on both sides of his family.
"And we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney quipped.
"You can say those things when you're not running for re-election."
West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, quickly asked Cheney to apologize.
"I truly cannot believe that any vice president of the United States, regardless of their political affiliation, would make such a derogatory statement about my state or any state for that matter," he said.
On Capitol Hill, Cheney's comment was denounced by both Democrats and Republicans.
"This is exactly the type of stereotyping that we don't need from our elected officials," said Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va. "It's disrespectful, and it's certainly not funny. ... As a proud state, I can say we are disappointed."

Just when the Bush Administration couldn’t dig itself any deeper, Cheney manages to do it. Brilliant.

Then he turned around and took a look at Sen. Byrd who's been representing West Virginia since 1949 and said "Well, Okay. You got a point...".

Why did they edit out the rest? ...and I demand that Cheney apologize to my wife/cousin/sister/grandma, she was deeply insulted.

I for one don’t even see the (perceived) insult in Cheney’s line. McCain will win WVA anyway.

The Whacko liberals watch Dick Cheny like goobers wanting too get their last licks in. They been after him for years and he's always walked.
I love it when just a single remark in jest can get these Lib and RINO Pollyannas all worked up.
I wish Dick did it three times a day, in front of the camaras.
Yet the Dems can say a loty worse about President Bush, and no ones demands apologies from them, the Dems comments on Bush and other Repubblicans are glad handed by the press. Give them more, get them ALL so cranked up they can't think straight.

Dumb joke (about a red state!), which won’t help the GOP “brand” in WV in the future. The apology probably won’t help much, but it was the right thing to do.

Maybe that lanky foureyed Rockiefallow and the Ole Byrd both keep running for the Senate so they won’t have to go home again. Maybe the voters keep electing them so they won’t come back.
To: Clintonfatigued
I think it is nice that he apologized to the 4 West Virginians who realized he was making fun of them.
And did you notice that a study was just published today that says that marrying a cousin does not result in genetic problems? Released by Soros no doubt.

"I really, really doubt that Obama and Cheney are related."I could be talked into believing that Obama and Byrd are distant relatives though.
