That story and this thread is telling of the quality of compassion for others regardless of their politics..........

Stay safe SLB.

The issue is being discussed on a local Hartford radio station right now. The radio talk show host was just talking about a former Hartford politician who was mugged last week by several thugs while riding his bicycle. He's in the hospital with serious injuries. It was reported a couple of days ago he may need brain surgery.

The state police have been sent in the past to Hartford to patrol the streets for several moths until order is restored to the point where the city police can handle the situation. Governor Jodi Rell has offered the same thing to Mayor Eddie Perez again. One major problem is 40% of those in Hartford who are on welfare are also dealing drugs so they are not about to work with police to solve any crimes. The bottom line is nothing will change until people in the neighborhoods start getting involved by reporting crimes.

lol! Well, it's TRUE!

There's nothing "chic" about playing "tag" through avoiding a situation which has one's name directly on it.

The difficulty is in assessing, sometimes, what our role is to be. My favorite part of the Serenity prayer is: (God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can;) and wisdom to know the difference.

Chic Tag is dating a guy but only for what he can buy you, and then dropping him.

It's also dating a girl for what she has to give, then dropping her once you get it.

Equally slimy behavior, IMO.

Exactly TRUE! Wham! You know, I’d always thought it was the girl alone who paid the karmic price for putting out and then getting dropped; but over the years I’ve learned, the guy who does this has thefted himself of dignity. And it colors his world; in his own subconscious, he is a reduced man; not a man. Some guys will try to keep pushing that self-image away through making similar and repeated action; in the vain hope he can convince his self-conscious that there was nothing wrong with what he did. Over time, and with more repeated bad behavior, he has to grow his cover. It leads to his downfall as a MAN. But, he looks to blame others for it. And all of it stemming from that first denial of his “theft”. tsk tsk.

“But you're right. Many Americans have lost their moral compass.”

I don't believe this is quite accurate. I think it is actually a bit worse than you describe. It is not INDIVIDUALS but the CULTURE that has slipped. Examples of everything from hard heartedness to out right evil have always describable in America but the operative Culture is the important factor. The operative Culture is the engine that has kept us aloft for two and a third centuries.

Evidence that this has fallen below the point of no return is in the fact of the historical unworthy who is apparently the Democrat nominee. Change his color to white but otherwise leave him as he is with his history, experience and associations and he, at ANY time in the history of this nation never so much as gets past the ‘I'm considering throwing my hat in the ring” stage.

Your post is quite right. The social disease of apathy has been politically corrective-ized. Chic tag strikes again.

Analogy using my post above about a black man who drowned at Russian River, hitting his head on the rocks, during my childhood: Would rescuers have found him sooner if they'd known he was black? No one knew his skin color, no one cared - we all wanted to save his LIFE.

Obama's campaign and his followers are not about LIFE. They are on about being "chic". No different from the guy who scores with a girl, and then drops her, but brags to his pals about how "manly" he is. Snort.

Thanks. Most men seem to think nothing of doing this, just as most women seem to see nothing wrong in using their charms to empty a guy’s wallet.

Sad. Using another human being made in God’s image solely as a means to a selfish end is always and inherently wrong. In extreme cases it qualifies as evil, IMO.

No one gave 'aide' because of scum bag lawyers like John Edwards suing the Good Samaritans who try to help - period.

Just touching an injured person can lose you your house. So sorry, but it just ain't worth it.

For those who seem to think that this is a harbinger of a moral decline in America, I assert that this incident is not evidence of that decline (not that the decline may not be happening).

Remember Kitty Genovese.

I think this is the result of 50 years of public school indoctrination - to trust the authorities,to follow quietly, to avoid confrontation at all costs.

I’ve stopped to help people, but only in these situations where there are a lot of people around. There’s been too much crime committed by those feigning needing help for me to be comfortable along the road in the more isolated areas. I’ll call 911 though...

Perhaps they thought that if they tried to help him...they would be sued.

That's what I figured when I first heard the story.

Yes, he did not die neglected. Is this not what Mother Theresa did? Is this not what Christ calls us to? Sweet stories.

Fifty years of Advancing Marxism in a world where the Government is powerful and important - where people are merely useful tools of the State - and you expect concern for an “individual?” Individuals no longer have rights and are not important ... this victims “Group” is now the important entity.

I think maybe that it is more than that. The lib/commies have created a culture of distrust and loathing among us through the divisions that they create in order to build their marxist utopia.

If it was just the removal of God, then I guess that I would not be a volunteer firefighter/first responder due to my agnosticism. I do believe that the heathen bastards created by the libtards could use some Judeo/Christian/Western values, but a person can be a productive and civil countryman without your transcendent truth.

These stories bring tears to my eyes.....My family and I would have done the same thing you did and I am proud to say that we raised our 3 sons to come to the aid of the weaker....

Bless you for stopping and helping. Your kids will be doing the same thing because they have great examples called parents....

You might be interested to learn that the Liberals turned the Kitty story into a political platform. They used this horrid story to promote their politics of obfuscation and lies.

Back in 1968, I saw a documentary film that, if I remember correctly, blamed the Kitty incident on our corporate, authoritarian culture, in which we are brought up to defer unquestioningly to authority and to keep our mouths shut. The film used as its theme song "Little Boxes," a tune written by Malvina Reynolds, a Communist professor, and popularized by the Stalinist bard Pete Seeger.

Incidentaly, not long after seeing the film, I read in the newspaper a story about a stabbing in the southeast Los Angeles community of Watts. Bystanders not only came to the aid of the victim but collared the assailant. However, the story only made the inside pages of the newspaper, whereas we've been hearing the Kitty story for three decades. Oh, well, as they say in China, the bridge that falls makes a thousand times more noise than the one that stands.

I certainly hope you are not sued for “medical malpractice” or “practicing medicine without a license.”... that would be a normal response in this litigious world.
