Many states have “good Samaritan” laws that prevent that sort of suit.

Hartford has a big illegals population and is a sanctuary city, and to me this sounds like the behavior of illegals.

"Just the tip of the iceberg on how America of 2008 is so different from the America the founding fathers had in mind."

Take a look at all the liberals and their candidates Obama and Hillary. Their mantra is screw the people of Iraq, we could be spending that money on free stuff for ourselves. They literally say this! Amazingly selfish they are.

I saw the news coverage and it was sickening.

Pray for the poor man who was jujured, but also pray for the people who ignored him. They both need prayers, but for very different reasons.

I agree with you. Also, notice all the indignation on these threads is directed at the pedestrians and almost none at the driver who didn’t stop, either.

Nelson111, you did right. And you've earned more diamonds on your heavenly tiara. Folks just get so caught up in their own life concerns and cares, they forget that every situation involving them is a direct message to them from the Divine about who they are, through how they choose to respond. The rude trucker, perhaps is unaware, that he will be sporting a "churlish" image of himself subconsciously for many years to come. It will color his world.

The image of Hope, the portrait Rev Wright heralds, is not what he thinks it is.

Hope is what the victims of that accident were feeling, Hope is what you delivered. It happens one person at a time.

You might be quite amazed by what good fortune awaits you, and how it plays out in your life.

When I was 18, I was looking for a store, couldn't find it. Pulled over to the side of a road to think about what to do. I heard a LOUD boom, and a man came running out of a building, his hair and back were on fire. I didn't even think; I grabbed my jacket, jumped out of the car and ran to him, wrestling him to the ground, with my jacket-covered hand slapping the fire off him. Now, a crowd had gathered, all trying to help. I could tell he was in shock. Everyone talking at once. I loomed into his face, looking deep into his eyes, and I told him he was alright. Everything was fine. I could see his eyes relax, he came out of shock.

15 years later, I was on a BART train coming from work. Crowded car. A man from the back of the car, said loudly "I know you". (Ulps, sez I). I know you! As he made his way towards me in the extremely silenced car, he told everyone that I had saved his life years ago (I hadn't, I'd just put the fire out). That I had appeared to him as an Angel. And he wanted to thank me. He said it was my eyes. We gave each other a hug, small talk. The car of people began clapping. And suddenly that car became a party, not strangers traveling on a BART train during commute hours. I thought about it later that night. I'll bet most everyone on that BART train that night went home thinking about how they could care better for others; how they might help.

My point is this, dear poster. You've no idea how many people you may have inspired that day to help others.

“City officials later acknowledged that police received four 911 calls immediately after the incident, and release portions of two calls on Friday.”

Sounds to me like there were a number of people that called for help.
I doubt anyone of the “bystanders” were capable of helping in any medical capacity.
In the video you see a man stop a vehicle, maybe to ask them to call 911. Another car pulls to the side, maybe to call 911.
Text from one of the calls says the caller was pleading for help to come quickly.
Yea, some scumbags looked and left. That will happen anywhere in this day and age. But there were immediate calls for help.
Also, the article states that this poor guy was just leaving a grocery after buying some milk. You will notice in the video that he is carrying nothing. Not that this has any bearing on the story. It’s just a part of the story that isn’t fact. The initial part of the story leads you to believe nobody did anything. This is patently false.

I remember the Kitty Genovese event.

You might be interested to learn that the Liberals turned the Kitty story into a POLITICAL PLATFORM. They used this horrid story to promote their politics of obfuscation and lies.

Chic Tag (pretending it's someone else's responsibility when in fact it is YOURS) is no laughing matter, truly.

Just a quick story into the ether.
About 25 years ago I was on my way to work on a snow covered highway. I came around a curve and saw a tractor trailer overturned and three men sprawled out along a hillside.
I pulled over and observed that one of the men was in bad shape. I ran about 300 yards to the nearest house and called (before cell phones and 911)the police. I ran back to the men and got the badly injured one into the back of my car and covered him with a blanket.
The police and ambulances arrived in due time.
I got a call at work later in the day informing me that the man I placed in my car and covered had died of his injuries.
I can still see the man's face in my mind every time I go around that curve.

Take heart, Layla. There are decent Americans.

I routinely call 911 on my cell phone when I see someone having difficulty--e.g. a flat tire on the interstate etc. (BTW, note the location before calling.)

But you're right. Many Americans have lost their moral compass.

A strong current of decadence has infected Western Civilization and threatens to destroy it. It is The Left. And it has done terrible damage to America's moral compass.

Children are sexualized.

Drug abuse is rampant.

Physicians are forced to pay more attention to litigation than to healing the sick and preventing illness.

The rights of criminals often override the rights of decent citizens not to become victims of crime.

Evidently, politicians and elected officials consider themselves powerless to enforce U.S. laws and stop illegal immigration.

In the U.S.A. especially, litigation is a powerful part of it. Many people are afraid to get involved when someone is in distress--notably some traffic accident. They could be sued by the very person they want to help--their savings stolen from them, their lives destroyed, themselves tied up in litigation for years.

Remember when doctors' cars had "MD" signs attached, so that they could stop and help injured people? A doctor would be nuts to display such a sign today. He'd be sued for stopping. He'd be sued for not stopping. He'd be a sitting duck.

Remember the days when the discovery of a rare animal on your property was cause for photographs--letting your children take it to school--considerable interest? Today people kill every one of them they can find, because if it's an "endangered species" their property is suddenly tied up in restrictions, is subject to monitoring by "environmentalist" bullies, and its value drops to zilch.

Yes, a strong current of decadence threatens America, but we're far better off than the people in most Western nations. And, despite the decadence that threatens them, most people are good at heart.

This country has become so litigious that it’s a wonder we even look each other in the eye anymore. Very sad state of affairs that support the idea that ‘no good deed should go unpunished.

America has a moral compass. Just ask the government to give you one for free so you can find your way. They’ll make some undeserving, “winner of life’s lottery”, rich oppressor pay for it.

Blessings on you, Ramcat. For some reason, you were supposed to be there, and for the man who died, to know, at some level, you were there. That he was cared for, that someone cared, and tried to help. I don't pretend to fathom the amazing arm of the Divine; I can only speak to what I've learned through my life. Most people go to Christian church, certainly, at least in my faith we have a regular prayer for the deceased, and to remember them. That you have a living, daily testimony for remembering the deceased tells me that not only are you person of strong conviction and charity, but that this "remembrance" is intended to be meaningful in persuading your daily choices through life.

I have a memory similar to yours. Russian River, CA, July 4th weekend. I was 11 or 12. I'd seen this young man (early 20s) with friends playing on the other side of the river. All of a sudden there was a drowning alert. Folks from both sides linked arms and legs walking in a line across the river. My girlfriend and I were strong swimmers on a competitive team, had to pass Water Safety and CPR annual tests, and we joined in the help effort. My toe nail snagged something. I yelled. My toe had gotten snagged in the young man's hair. Everyone came, pulled him up. 1/2 hour of trying to revive him. He died. And his corpse lay on the river bank, covered, until an ambulance arrived. He'd hit his head on rocks diving into the shallow river trying to save a child. I knew, already, you don't dive (head first) into waters you don't know well. But obviously he didn't.

He was black, and when he was pulled out of the waters, he was a pale yellow color all the way up to his neck. This is a memory which has colored my life path, that underneath it all, what is important about life sure isn't skin color.

A problem, I've observed through my life, with being "the one who helps" is that more and more such opportunities seem to arise and in direct correlation to the disease and spread of apathy. I was in CA, and I was "the one" time after time after time. I'm now elsewhere, and I'm not the "one"; there are many acting angels here.

Perhaps you are careful not only about the speed by which you drive curves, but you keep careful and keen watch over the curveballs life throws at you. The deceased man did not die uncared for and alone. That was his blessing.

And the traffic didn’t stop.

That's probably why some of the pedestrians didn't help. It doesn't speak well of the drivers that no one seemed to care, but that seems to be the general attitude.

In Alabama, the guy would have had a fund at the local band and a plastic jug on the counter at the local convenience store before he hit the ground...

In CA, right after the Kitty Genovese case, the hue and cry from Democrats was... “The Personal is Political”.
