Bush Inks Order On Immigrant Workers
CBS News ^ | 6/9/08

Posted on 06/09/2008 11:46:57 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

President Bush has signed an executive order requiring contractors and others who do business with the federal government to make sure their employees can legally work in the United States.

Mr. Bush signed the order Friday and the White House announced the order Monday.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez planned an afternoon news conference to discuss the order and other ways the administration has stepped up its crackdown on illegal immigration.

The order says federal departments and agencies must require contractors to use an electronic system to verify that the workers are eligible to work in the U.S.

The order is aimed at cracking down on hiring of illegal immigrants. But people who overstayed visas or came to the country legally but do not have permission to work, such as some students or those awaiting work permits, also could be snagged with the system.

"It is the policy of the executive branch to enforce fully the immigration laws of the United States, including the detection and removal of illegal aliens and the imposition of legal sanctions against employers that hire illegal aliens," in the executive order says.

The order comes as a worker verification bill has essentially stalled in Congress. A Democratic immigration enforcement bill would require employers to check the citizenship and legal status of all their employees.

Bush had always been for comprehensive immigration reform. That you missed that is your fault for not paying attention. The fact that Bush is now doing what we, and YOU, want and YOU are crying is just pitiful...

Had you been around before 2006, you would have known that I didn't just find this out.

Had you been around in 2004, you would have seen my posts deriding Bush's Social Security Totalization Agreemement with Mexico that would allow Mexican illegal aliens (and their family back home in Mexico) collect US Social Security benefits for the time they worked illegally in the US.

Had you been around in 2001, you would have read all about the Partnership for Prosperity Agreement (with Mexico) that paved the way for the New Alliance Task Force in 2003, which relaxed banking regulations to allow Mexican illegal aliens, using only a Matricula Consular card as ID to obtain US bank accounts, credit cards, auto, home and business loans.

Just where do you think caused the sub-prime lending meltdown, US citizens? No, it was Bush's true constituents, the Mexican illegal aliens.

Go back to sleep, avacado (sic).

Well if you knew all that then why are you crying now that he is cracking down and building a fence? Your logic makes no sense.

No matter what President Bush does on the illegal immigration issue most on this forum will not be satisfied they want a total solution and they want it now. President Bush did more to address and try to fix the illegal immigration than any other President in last 40 years but most here will never give him credit for this.

I haven't seen any other kind of government. That doesn't mean I celebrate it.

W may have campaigned on "comprehensive immigration reform" in 2000 but 9/11 should have been enough reason to reevaluate his priorities. Being tied to a policy with iron chains because he campaigned on it is not leadership or principled action. Not when circumstances radically change. That's just pride or lack of vision.

How many miles of double layer fence has actually been built?

It makes no sense because you've been asleep for the last seven years, avacado (sic).

Had you been around way back then you would have been able to read my many long-winded posts deriding Bush's actions every step of the way.

That he waited until his last year in office to actually enforce our immigration laws only tells me that this is an election-year tactic.

When Bush was pushing his so-called CIR, all the good lick-spittles, such as yourself, were claiming that our immigration laws were unenforceable and that this was the reason why we needed to pass the McCain/Kennedy CIR. Now, suddenly, and without CIR, Bush is enforcing the laws his lick-spittles said was unenforceable.

What fence? Give me some of those mushrooms you’re eating. I want to see things that aren’t there too.

"How many miles of double layer fence has actually been built?"

I dunno. In Texas they are still fighting land owners and as a Conservative it does give me an uneasy feeling seeing the Feds grab private land.

If you count amnesty for 20 million illegals. Name something else.

"What fence?"

That's what the illegals say when they see those cheap fences right before they snip through them: "What fence... snip, snip..."

That leaves about 2/3s of the border where there is no land dispute and no fence.

Next excuse!?!

“President Bush did more to address and try to fix the illegal immigration than any other President in last 40 years . . .”
Oh boy—a categorical statement, so it’s either true or false!
Let’s see, shall we?
http://w3.agsfoundation.com/press/release/43

“enforcement of immigration laws during the first five years of the Bush Administration is down 30% from the last five years of the Clinton Administration, despite an increase in border personnel.”

All those lies will cross your eyes.

Just outside the window that includes Eisenhower, I notice.

Does this include giving US Social Security benefits to Mexican illegal aliens and their families back home in Mexico?

Does this include sending billions of US dollars to Mexico for economic development and infrastructure?

Does this include relaxing the banking rules to allow Mexican illegal aliens to use Matricula Consular cards as ID to obtain US bank accounts, credit cards, auto, home and business loans, which resulted in the current sub-prime meltdown?

Does that include the lowest level of immigration enforcement ever seen under any administration, democrat or republican?

Please, tell us all of the great things Bush has done during his time in office to fix the illegal alien problem because all I've seen him do is to make a bigger mess of it.

There's a fence is being built? Where? Specifically.

Please cite the news article containing the details of the construction and exactly when it was started and how much has been built to date.

The fence is being built now? How much? How long has it taken to get it started? How much has been built compared to how much could be built? Honest answers to those questions lead to one conclusion; the fence is being stalled as long as possible.

There are a lot of excuses for stupidity, incompetence and corruption in government. What excuse is there for making excuses for it?

Unless you tell me otherwise, my understanding is that the funding for the Secure Fence Act was gutted by Congress. You need to focus.

You need to refocus on what I wrote. This is a pathetic move to revive Republican voters for the up coming elections, nothing more, nothing less.

This EO has nothing to do with illegal aliens or our borders. The only reason I spoke of the Oct 2006 pre election fence bill was to show that we’ve been here before and we came away with nothing, just as we’ll get no action from this EO.

The bureaucracy will drag their heels and pretend to be working on putting this EO into effect until McCain or Obama take office and immediately rescind the EO.

Net effect? None, only time and money wasted pretending to do comply with the EO.

In Texas there is a big land grab going on by the Feds. That is the beginning of the building process. Sheeze... and how do you feel about the Fed grabbing privately owned land?

True, he fought harder for the Mexican government and amnesty for their illegal aliens than he fought for any other domestic issue during his presidency.

That's not the "fix" America was looking for.
