Obama Under Republican Ethics Fire Over Housing (Obama Is "Turning The Page" Alright - Backwards

... McCain's campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) fastened on a Wall Street Journal report that said that Jim Johnson, the mortgage executive leading Obama's vice presidential hunt, had received preferential home loans.

... the Republican's chief economic adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin said the reported loans to Johnson from Countrywide Financial raised troubling questions.

"And I thought it was remarkable that Senator Obama could talk about housing, talk about ethics, and fail to mention that he entrusted the single most important decision in his campaign, the choice of the vice presidentil running mate, to a gentlemen, Mr. Johnson, who benifitted from preferential lending at Countrywide and state financial payouts," he told reporters.

Honestly? As a nation, we’ve pretty much accepted the fact that long-term Washintonites are all pretty much corrupt. So what’s the big story here? He got a favorable loan rate? Yawn.

Your yawn is pretty much part of the problem. If we don't hold people accountable for the little things we can't hold them accountable for big things. Holding people accountable is DAMM HARD WORK and nobody will like you for doing it.

If you will yawn at a little things, what else will you yawn at? If you are of a religious persuasion, God wants us to be faithful in little things. As I get older I am very thankful I had parents that didn't yawn when I needed correction and say that “boys will be boys.”

Don't be fooled by the headline on the WaPo article. HUD has very little regulatory authority over Fannie Mae. The fact is that every time HUD has tried to exert any authority, Fannie Mae has run to its Democrat friends on Capitol Hill and they start beating up on HUD to lay off.

Jim Johnson had no executive or housing finance experience when he was hired to be CEO of Fannie mae. What he had was a pile of Democrat political connections stemming from his management of the Mondale campaign in 1984. The way he "managed" Fannie Mae was by hiring an army of lobbyists, either buying off or threatening lenders like Countrywide, creating a "charitable foundation" that funneled millions of dollars into "community organizations" and "affordbale housing programs" connected to local Democrat officials, and then rallying this army of dependents every time HUD or the Republicans in Congress made any attempt at reining in Fannie Mae. He was a ruthless political operator. Even when the Republicans gained control of Congress, Johnson was able to rally Democrats to stave off any attempt to regulate Fannie. Paul Sarbanes was completely in the tank for Fannie and would not allow anything to move in the Senate Banking Committee.

Believe me, HUD had no power to allow or make Fannie Mae do anything it did not already want to do. Fannie complained all the time that it was too hard for it to make its affordable housing goals, and it suggested that the answer was to allow it to buy more securities backed by subprime loans. It had letters signed by Barney Frank and other influential Democrats in support of this policy. It got members of Congress to insert instructions into HUD's appropriations bills on this. And then it went off and bought about 10 times the amount of subprime securities it needed to make its affordable housing goasl. Those bonds paid huge returns and Fannie's stock price (and therefore Johnson's bonus) soared as a result.

This is the REAL scandal if anyone cares to connect the dots.

” He’s not the same Jim Johnson that I’ve known for the past 20 years”, Obama said.

Beat me to it.

It’s far more than any issues about personal loans from Countrywide — Jim Johnson is a Democrat whore from way back who ran Fannie Mae — publicly protected cesspool of Democrat hacks. Time for a full investigation into how Jim Johnson made his money with political protection and lobbyists.

Government corruption is indeed wide and deep. Consider, the notorious and still sitting Democrat Representative William Jefferson. It is by no means acceptable. I hope, at least for those of my acquaintance, that such behavior is not a yawning matter. Unfortunately, from the likes of Obama and his fellow travelers, such behavior is normal behavior.

Thanks for your post.

Honestly, I don’t know that much about the ends and outs of Fannie Mae/HUD/Housing Market, etc.

I do so appreciate the knowledge I learn around here from people like you.

Your angle on this really should be investigated.

Don’t put this on me, please. We don’t do anything except bitch and moan on online forums. We don’t run our own people, we don’t protest, we don’t do anything. I’m just stating a fact. The other side gets what they want because they are louder and they’re meaner and they actually DO SOMETHING.

Hey, Jeff, I think you ought to add pages that list BO’s voting record and the planks of his platform... like the examples below.

Just a suggestion. I like having one place to go for all my BO facts.

A few measures that Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. backs.

He sponsored S.CON.RES.53: A concurrent resolution expressing the sense of
Congress that any effort to impose photo identification requirements for voting
should be rejected.

In 1999 he was the only Illinois State Senator to vote against a bill barring
early release for (criminal) sex offenders.

He voted against filtering pornography on school and library computers and he
voted for sex education for kindergarten children through the 5th grade.

Also, in 2001, he voted “present” on a bill to keep pornographic book and video
stores and strip clubs from setting up within 1,000 feet of schools and
churches.

Just as unsettling is his voting record on abortion.

Twice, Obama voted against bills prohibiting tax funding of abortions.

In February 2004, his wife, Michelle, sent out a fund raising letter, which
actually stated her concern over the rise of conservatism in the Country, and
that the ‘so-called’ partial-birth abortion was a legitimate medical procedure
that should be protected. That would be the procedure that allows doctors to
stick surgical forks in the heads of babies that have partially come out of the
womb.

And your partially born children aren’t the only thing he wants to abort....it’s
your income too.

According to Dennis Gartman, an internationally acclaimed expert on markets,
BO’s tax scheme includes:

First, Obama has proclaimed the “Bush” tax cuts “toast.”

The highest marginal tax rate will go from 35% to 39.6%.

The estate tax, which is entirely eliminated in 2010, will revert back to 45%
under Obama.

The tax on dividends and capital gains, now 15% will rise to 25%.

Social security (FICA) tax increases will hit well-to-do people the hardest.
Presently, FICA taxes are paid on incomes up to $102,000. Self employed people
pay 12.4%. If you are employed, this amount is split between the employee and
the employer. Obama wants to remove the cap.

So, for residents of Virginia, people who are self employed and earn more than
$200,000 will pay a tax of:

* 39.6% (income)
* + 5.75% (state)
* +12.4% (FICA)
* = 57.75%!

UPDATE: The self-employed pay something called the SECA (Self-Employment
Contributions Act) tax. That consists of 12.4% FICA and 2.9% Medicare. So, take
that total Obama tax grab up over 60%.

That’s lame. He was born in the United States, therefore has birthright citizenship.

The democRats have tried arguing that McCain is not a natural citizen because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone. Of course, McCain is a citizen because (1) both his parents were citizens, (2) the Panama Canal Zone was a U.S. territory when McCain was born, (3) he was born on a U.S. military base in Panama because his father was stationed there in the Navy, and (4) there was a specific statute at the time making anyone born to U.S. citizens in the Panama Canal zone a citizen.

It was a lame argument about McCain and it is just as lame about B.O.

B.O. is clearly not qualified to be President, but it is not because of his citizenship.
