China consumes more than double what its natural resources can supply...
China uses 15 percent of the world's total biological capacityresources such as water, land and timber...
"In the next 10 to 20 years, China's consumption will likely continue to pose threats to China's own ecosystems and place increasing pressures on global biocapacity,"
Water and electricity are priced below their market value in China, causing it to be inefficiently used ...

Gas is heavily subsidized by the state. A FR thread showed gas in China at $2.50 a gallon or so. (about 17 cents a gallon in Venezuela though if I recall).
You hear all this stuff about how fast China is growing, gaining wealth, etc. Perhaps. But I think it is propped up on a poor foundation. Just like their schools that fell in the earthquake.

Impossible...Only the evil and vile United States is the offender in over consumption. ALL other nations, especially despotic dictatorial lead ones and communist and socialist utopias are not even close.
The United States is Dirtier
The United States is more gluttonous
The United States Is a near theocracy because of idiot Christan's
The United States spreads war
The United States pollutes the world
The United States CAUSED global warming
and on and on and on and on

You hear all this stuff about how fast China is growing, gaining wealth, etc. Perhaps. No perhaps about it. On the pollution front though, they messed up their environment long before a rising middle class starting putting strains on it through new consumerism. The water was horribly polluted before the opening up of the economy started.
I would view it as a bit ironic that only its new wealth will enable it to clean it up, if it can be done. U.S. companies over there to put in water purification systems have gone home and passed on the contract saying it could not be done and with the advise, "Not only don't drink it, don't touch the water."

But the Chinese get off scot-free under Kyoto. What a cockamamie treaty that was. The increase in China’s CO2 will offset any gains if the Kyoto signatory countries hit their targets (which they won’t), unless they are interested in economic suicide.

China is like an awfully fuel-inefficient gas guzzler. Cheap commodity price has been good for China. Now that it is no longer the case, China needs a radical readjustment, which won't happen overnight.

A question that needs to be considered in all of this talk about the price of commodities is that of subsidies. Developing countries such as China and India heavily subsidize basic commodities in order to try to create a middle class that has access to cars, electricity, food, and clean water. As a result this has led to the inefficient use of these commodities because the end users are not paying a true market price. If they were, they certainly would be using less of each commodity causing a decrease in worldwide demand which should logically lower prices.
Not much attention has been paid to this factor in the pricing of commodities and the affect they have on worldwide prices. All I keep hearing is that Americans are gluttons and use too much of the world's resources without a word about these subsidies and their affect on consumption.

If the communists allow the pricing of commodities to rise to the worldwide prices, they may have another revolution ?
Maybe after the Olympics ?

There was an article in the Seattle times yesterday (Tues) with an article (from the LA Times I think) that talked about how China will be raising the price of gas - but after the Olympics. Guys on the Chinease street agreeing that China is just trying to stay stable on the gas (and everything else) until after the Olympics.
Lots of fuel has been transferred to the earthquake region causing shortages in other areas. Of course then it is rumored that the refineries (refineries, stations, etc. are all state owned) are holding on to their product until after the Olympics so they can sell it at the higher prices which is adding to the shortages.

After the Olympics : people will be re-educated or killed.
Gas and other energy prices will go up.
Closed dirty factories will be re-opened.

Please give details, this is impressive! I'm not a water quality expert. Only know what I was told by a friend sent over to do the work. I asked how bad is it? He said don't drink, don't touch it. His company was not going to accept the contract because they did not feel it could be done. They were there to purify water to an acceptable manufacturing standard.

Tell Obama’s supporters so they can head to China to pump generators by hand and stuff, analogous to the old “let’s cut sugarcane for Fidel”. :’) Thanks geo.
Don’t forget — if it weren’t for corn-based ethanol production, the Chinese would have plenty of everything. ;’)

With Red China consuming massive amounts of the global energy supplies, coupled with India's expanding economy, energy prices have only one direction to continue trending -- UP, UP and off the charts! By Labor Day, we could be looking at $6 a gallon or a lot higher contingent on taking long over due strikes against Iran's Russian nuclear plants.
The clock is ticking for this little piece of jihadic filth.
