Raleigh, N.C. — Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory are neck-and-neck in the North Carolina gubernatorial race, according to a new WRAL News poll.

A survey of 500 likely voters on Tuesday by the polling firm Rasmussen Reports showed Perdue, the Democratic nominee, with 47 percent of the vote and McCrory, the Republican nominee, with 46 percent. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Perdue erased the slight lead McCrory held immediately after the state's May 6 primary. In a poll conducted then, McCrory held a 45 to 39 percent lead.

If we are unlucky enough to get Perdue, it'll be four more years of Guv'ner "Sleasely" and his caretaker/sit on the fence mentality.

I was at our County GOP meeting last evening and those who had attended the State Convention were impressed with McCrory.

My fear is that McCain and Dole whose recent votes have angered many will keep McCrory and decent candidates from winning.

Like her neighbors VA and TN, this state nearly always disappoints Republicans in gubernatorial contests.

Pat McCrory may not be a perfect candidate, but he comes across well on TV to appeal to the suburban areas around the major cites to have a good chance—I think people are absolutely sick of the corruption and incompetence of the ‘rats in the this state, McCrory has a fairly good chance of becoming the first Republican gov in 20 years in this state.

One fear is that people will just vote a straight Dem ticket out of disgust. I think Dole may be done regardless. Hagan seems strong. She’s not afraid to go after her. And it’s not Jesse Helmsville anymore. So Dole doesn’t have the coattails she rode in on. The voters may just say the heck with it & push one button.

I think he has a good chance as long as he learned from the lesson Richard Moore failed. Perdue—or her people are pretty smart. The decision to stop the negative campaigning turned out to be brilliant when Moore decided to keep his up.

True. Also, note it was good thing for us is that the ‘rat campaign was really nasty and some of Moore mudslinging rightfully stuck to Purdue...

Put barack mcgovern around the democrat’s neck like a flaming tire full of gasoline and a one point lead burns up immediately and turns into a 5 to 7 point win for the GOPer.
