Car Bomb Kills More Than 50 People in Baghdad

A car bomb tore through a market area in a mainly Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad on Tuesday, killing more than 50 people and wounding dozens, officials said, the deadliest such attack in more than three months.

The attack occurred just before 6 p.m. as the market in the northwestern Hurriyah neighborhood was packed with shoppers preparing for their evening meals.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack, but it bore the hallmarks of al-Qaida in Iraq, which is known to use car bombs and suicide attacks.

A soft drink vendor who witnessed the blast, Kamil Jassim, said the car that exploded was parked near a two-story building with shops on the bottom floor and apartments on top. He said a nearby generator caught on fire, partially collapsing the building and burning several other houses.

The casualty toll spiked to at least 51 people killed and 75 people wounded after rescue crews extinguished the blaze and found the bodies of dozens of victims who had been trapped inside or buried in the rubble, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.

These miserable bastards are at it again. If they keep it up, even if every now and then, they know the public will get sick and tired.

The Democrats rejoicing that they have again a talking point.
McCain can point out rightly that casualties have dramatically sunken, but the MSM and Dems (redundant) can yap “liar liar! A bomb went off!”

The car bombs are now self-defeating.

They don't scare the Iraqis anymore, now that their confidence is growing. They now make them even more determined to get the creeps in the country.

Oh, the Iraqi public has been sick and tired of al Qaeda's evil for a long time.

They're pulling about one stunt a week now, as opposed to a few almost daily as late as last spring.

They're done and they know it, but they're trying to "save face." This is just going to get more of them rounded up or better yet, wiped out.

that’s absolutely right. A few years ago a car bomb would be a sign to the people that America isn’t protecting them. Now it’s a sign that Al-Qaeda and co. don’t care about the citizens, just about power.

Just finished Moment of Truth in Iraq...amazing read.

I rather think Al-Qaeda, trying to give the Dems momentum for te elections. Iran is afraid of a US-Iraqi security agreement, creating havoc would high-lighten the need for a continued US presence. But then again the trickery and backdoor thinking of the mullahs can’t be puzzled out. Could also be Al-Qaeda doing Iran’s bidding.

The MSM is delighted I am sure.

This will be top news of course. Iraq back in the headlines after many months of massive progress utterly ignored and unreported.

IMO, Al Qaeda is burying itself. All it will gain for its efforts like these is animosity.

Actually, Washington DC is overall probably more dangerous than Baghdad, despite this latest outrage.

The most dangerous spot, of course, is in the way of Pelosi, Reid, et al. as they race to the microphones to do Iran/Al Qaeda's bidding by declaring that the war is lost and American needs to surrender.

Terrible news, and a horrible reminder of why al Qaeda must be defeated, not appeased or surrendered to.

Get ready for the donks/libs to use this as proof that we are losing and that things have not improved.
