Male kiss adds sauce to Heinz mayo ad
Guardian ^ | Monday June 16, 2008 | Mark Sweney

Heinz is set to challenge some viewer expectations with a light-hearted TV campaign that features two men sharing a kiss.

The TV commercial, which promotes a new range of dressing called Heinz Deli Mayo, breaks tonight and will be supported by a press campaign.

Heinz' new ad opens with a family on a normal morning routine with a young boy and girl getting ready for school and their father preparing for the office.

The young boy and girl go to the kitchen to get their sandwiches, which are being prepared by a man with a New York accent dressed in a deli serving outfit who they refer to as "mum".

When their father goes to get his sandwich he says to mum in the kitchen "See you tonight love".

However, mum barks back "Hey, ain't you forgetting something?", at which point the two men share a kiss. Mum then sends the father off with the words: "Love you. Straight home from work, sweet cheeks."

“The little girl calls one of the men “mum” The “wife” says don’t be late sweet cheeks. It’s obviously two homos living together raising children... you know, just like every normal family, and you just saw the kiss??”

What I saw was a goofy ad insinuating that when using their product it will seemingly turn your wife into a NY deli chef, as it is NY Deli style mayo.

“You’re right, no agenda here.”

The agenda is to advertise a particular flavor mayonnaise.

I just dropped them a note letting them know that I will no longer be buying their products. Thanks for the link.

“guess the 100x -worked.”

“Worked” for what? If by “worked” you mean turned me into a rational human being who doesn’t freak out over an obviously comedic peck in foreign commercial, then, yeah, it worked.

Yikes! Like I said to the last poster, I'm glad you're not on the Supreme Court interpreting Constitutional law.

BTW, just what particular flavor would that be?....on second thought, nevermind

“Old stuff for you?,Are you AC/DC or AC?”

I wouldn’t know. You tell me. You seem far more familiar with the homosexual lingo than I am.

Puleeze. No need for insulting a fellow FR.

As a Christian, I do NOT condone homosexual behavior in any way, manner or form. I still think that the ad’s purpose is not in showing an out and out homosexual couple. As a consumer, it seems the commercial is portraying “Mum” as a NY deli sandwich maker because the product (mayo) is sooooooo great. No great stretch at all (and what on earth does this have to do with SCOTUS?!).

Unfortunately, in England and Europe this commercial will probably not cause many eyebrows to rise at all, not like here in the U.S. because they embrace homosexuality in their media and tv shows, etc. while we still have people fighting that here in the U.S.

no. I meant “worked” as in, maybe has dulled your senses to what is really going on here.

“Comedic peck”, indeed.

Sick, sick, sick. I saw this sick commercial last night. Sick.

What in the heck is a guy to tell his young grandsons.

When I see Heinz product now, all I will be able to think of is .....well never mind, I’ll be nice.

This was very foolish for Heinz to do, it’s going to cost them big bucks.

Thank you. That’s what I saw too. I know there’s a homosexual agenda out there in media land in England, Europe and the U.S. but I honestly don’t see this ad portraying 2 homosexuals living together—BUT that being said, the two men sharing a kiss is a not so subtle at all either!!

I have a new slogan for them:

Heinz Mayonaise--as tasteless as two men kissing.

I was beginning to wonder, after going through a page and a half of replies, if I was the only one who didn't see the big deal. Really, WTF does this ad have to do with homosexuality?

You've got a guy dressed up like a deli worker with a Brooklyn accent in the middle of a kitchen in Great Britain. He looks obviously and utterly out of place. It's intentionally outrageous enough to not be believable. Well, to normal people, anyway.

“I’m glad you’re not on the Supreme Court interpreting Constitutional law.”

I’m equally glad that Supreme Court justices do not make TV commercials.

Men have been kissing other men as a comedic device as long as I have been alive. I seem to remember members of the Rat Pack doing it and that was before my time. I remember Sammy Davis Junior kissing Carrol O’Connor flat on the lips in an episode of “All in the Family”.

I could go on and on. Why the sudden outrage? Ascared of catching the gay?
