ROANOKE — Call it two-wheel road rage.

A Keller bicyclist was cited for simple assault Saturday after he threw a water bottle at a motorist who he believed had cut him off.

Several cyclists were riding about 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Ashley Lane when a Toyota driven by a 43-year-old Trophy Club woman veered in front of them, according to a police report.

One bicyclist pursued the motorist and got her to stop a few blocks away, the report states.

The bicyclist threw the bottle, which went through a window and struck the woman.

If only bicyclists were properly armed with good firepower they wouldn’t have to rely on tossing a water bottle in such road rage incidents. /s

fwiw, I used to bike race (amateur only) during some of my 20s, and I did observe traffic laws carefully — but having to dodge insanely reckless Masshole drivers back in the ‘80s in eastern Mass. made me finally decide to give up the sport after a couple of overly close calls. There were times when I wanted to have my own shoulder-launched missiles for some of the more reckless and dangerous drivers, who are a great danger to themselves and everyone on the roads, not only bicyclists.

They get jammed up in my trucks wheel wells. I hate it when that happens.

Bicyclists should be required to have plates...

I had plates on my bike growing up - personalized, actually.

The name Trophy Club came from the city origin as a planned community. First step was having a golf course designed by famous golfer Ben Hogan. It was his first and last design. Then they built the community pool on the wrong plot of land and had to disband the home owners association.

It is a nice place to live despite the odd name.

I run any cyclist over 18 off the road, and over the bridge railing if possible. They are greenee’s and the reason fuel is so high. Worse than that they are Liberals. They have no right to use he roads that I paid for. So there!

Actually, this is utter BS. I'm a hardcore conservative and I've been riding bicycles for longer than you perhaps have been alive and it's got NOTHING to do whatsoever with "being green". It has to do with "low impact exercise" - and if you try to run someone off the road, you ought to get charged with attempted murder.

“. . . it turns out he’s holding the phone in his right hand, so he squeezes the left brake, front wheel stops and he flies over the handlebars, luckily far enough away that I don’t run him over.”

There is a God. And He has a sense of humor to go with His justice.

Years ago a friend’s brother was cycling out in the country and got nailed by a soda can a jerk in a passing car threw at him. The idiots stopped at a convenience store 5 miles down the road and stayed to long. He caught up with them, pulled the soda thrower out of the car and beat the snot out of him.

Stop.

Before you go any further, if they don’t follow the rules, call the cops on them and get them cited. Don’t act like an idiot yourself.

I drive an SUV, and I ride a lot, but I ride for exercise and it pisses me off too when I see someone breaking the law (on bicycles) as well as in cars.

So, it makes little sense that people in cars act aggressively with people on bikes when it’s not necessary.

Flipside of the coin: When bicyclists are cruising down a hill (And travelling at or near car speeds) they will actually catch up to my motorcycle (using engine braking) and ride RIGHT NEXT TO ME. They carry on conversations, and swarm me.

Happened a few weeks ago. A motorcyclist is NOT a bicycle. It is to be regarded as a car.

How does a bicyclist catch up to a car and then how does he get her to stop?

I'll tell you how I think he caught her: he ran the red lights/stop signs. Cyclists whine that they have as legal a right to the road as cars, but I constantly see them disobey the rules we car drivers follow.

Long line of slow-movin’ traffic. It’s a guy in full Kerry regalia on a bike. Rush hour. After a few miles and about 15 minutes I finally get past him. I stop at a traffic light behind about ten cars. A$$hole passes everyone on the right, then blows the red light. I finally get past him again only to be stopped at another signal. I see him comin’ I pull over close to the curb, flip open the passenger door right in front of him, and yell.”You do that again and I’m gonna kick your a$$. He reconsiders.
I ride my bike all the time, but I follow the law, and have some sense of courtesy!

No, that’s not true at all. IGNORANT bicycle drives don’t follow the rules. The MAJORITY do. I live in Colorado Springs and we’ve got a huge bike population, MOST of whom you see working out daily are from the Olympics. They are professional and amateur athletes who do everything in their power to follow the laws and show good will towards others on the road.

The ones who break the laws are those who would do the same thing in a car, run a red light, or cut someone off. They are dangerous on a bike or in a car.

You folks need to STOP doing the broadbrush thing...

So what’s a “Trophy Club” woman?

It's a woman that lives in the city/town of Trophy Club, TX. Yes, there is such a city north of Dallas-Ft. Worth.

I live on a two lane blacktop road that is elevated above cornfields and there is ZERO shoulder on either side, just about a four foot dropoff.

Our town has a bike club and uses that road as part of their course. If there is one biker he holds to the side and you can pass him easily. If there are two they HAVE to bike side by side forcing you to pass them like a car, and if you are unfortunate enough to get behind the entire club they all ride in one big clump to the point you can’t even pass them at all, they intentionally move over the yellow line far enough your tires will be in the dirt to make it around safely.

I am normally a very calm and collected guy, but man do I get hot when I have to deal with those a******* every weekend on the road. It’s like it’s divine intervention that we meet every Saturday morning all summer long.
