If it was the base that was actually pissed, some Democrats would also be the subject of these recall petitions and 60% of the replies on these threads wouldn’t be from you.
Not really. I just wasn't paying any attention to you.
So many of these "purists" seem to forget just who and what we just got rid of:
How did you arrive at $8.00 an hour?
Look, Lawzian is still a Democrat state. Obviously they’re going to criticize the Republicans. Doesn’t mean they’re telling the truth.
Like I said you never pushed for a recall of Blanco. You must miss her now.
Sessions of the Legislature
The legislature is required to convene in the state capitol in Baton Rouge for regular annual sessions. In even-numbered years, a general session convenes at noon on the last Monday in March to extend for no longer than 60 legislative days during a period of 85 days. In odd-numbered years, a limited jurisdiction session convenes at noon on the last Monday in April for no longer than 45 legislative days during a period of 60 days. The legislature also may convene for extraordinary sessions and for veto sessions. The legislature is required to meet in an organizational session, which cannot exceed three days, on the date its members take office. A special session may be called by the governor or may be convened by the presiding officers of both houses upon a written petition of a majority of the elected members of each house. A special session is limited to the number of days stated in the proclamation, not to exceed 30 days. The power to legislate in a special session is limited to the objects specifically enumerated in the proclamation (La. Const. Art. III, Sec. 2).
And, in TN anyway, there’s a whole lot more to gain beyond the “salary.”

In fact, a recent report
revealed that in 2007, 22 legislators received more
in per diem allowance than their base salary of
$18,123.
The worst offender is House Speaker Pro Tempore
Lois DeBerry (D-Memphis), who received $31,967
in per diem payments last year. She collected most
of that during 14 out-of-state trips, including
$1,288 she collected during a trip to China.
Recalling people who make 37,000 may be a favor.
New Hampshire pays their legislators $100 per year and they seem to be getting on all right. New Mexico pays their legislators nothing, they get $144 per day per diem. In Wyoming they get $150 a day when meeting plus another $85 a day for expenses. My own state of Kansas pays $86.50 per day the legislature is meeting plus another $109 per day in per diem. Look around you, other states pay less and they aren't awash in the corruption you claim to be trying to prevent. Louisiana, on the other hand, paid $16,800 plus $143 a day for the two months in session, and apparently they have to fill their pockets with bribes to make ends meet. Maybe you're issue isn't with how much you're paying your legislators, it's the kind of candidates you're attracting? And maybe the corruption will continue even with the pay increase?
I call BS on your remark, you may not have meant it that way but it is pure BS. Paying legislators more never results in a higher standard of conduct on the politicians part. CA used to have(back in the 1950s to early 60s)a system where the people had to vote in a pay raise for the legislature. This was changed and every since then the quality of Government has gone down hill. Paying them more doesn't work. legislators are supposed to be part time workers not full time politicians. I find it suspicious that only Republicans are being recalled but still, if Jindel had vetoed this there would be no recalls at all.
“a pay raise doubling their salaries” is a bit misleading, the Legislators were only making 16,000 grand a year, that is a pretty slim wage for working year round Red_Devil.
I think 37,000 is too much as well, though, they should be paid what the average Louisianian makes, I bet that is more like 22,000 or something.
If he keeps going back on campaign promises I expect it will.
High hope for this guy have evaporated....just another spinelessrepublican.
“..how do you stop the flow of corruption...8.00 an hour..”
Well for starters, how about electing Honest Legislators in the first place?
I “know” it’s LA, but that would be a great place to start, and no matter the pay raise, if the Lawmaker is a crook, it won’t stop them from betraying the public.
But 16,000 is to low of pay IMO, we can agree on that much!
You guys should do some homework. 16,800 is their base pay, with per diem added in they are making quite a bit more. The bottom line is this. Legislatures were never meant to be full time jobs, citizens were supposed to fill in and do their regular jobs on the side when they could. Professional politicians are what have ruined this country. While the recall of only republicans is suspicious(in fact downright sh***y)there would be no recalls if Jindel had vetoed this raise as he had promised.
Now I do grant you they do have other obligations outside their 90 session. But it is not meant to be a full time job!

Recall petition filed against Jindal
by The Times-Picayune
Friday June 27, 2008, 3:58 PM
Two Jefferson Parish residents have filed a recall petition against Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Ryan and Kourtney Fournier have submitted paperwork to the Secretary of State’s office Friday that allows them to attempt to collect enough signatures over the next 180 days in an effort to get a recall election for the governor.
Public anger over a legislative pay raise has bubbled up in the past two weeks, with several House members targeted with recall petitions. Lawmakers raised their base salary from $16,800 to $37,500 during the recently ended legislative session.
Jindal, too, has been criticized for his inability to stop the raise before it was passed and his refusal to veto the pay raise bill. The bill will become law unless he vetoes it by July 8.
The Fourniers would have to collect and then have verified signatures from at least one-third of the registered voters in the state.
