A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 7-2-08

President Bush held a press conference this morning in the Rose Garden of the White House. He discussed his upcoming trip to the G8 Summit in Japan (his eighth and last as president), the economy, and reemphasized the need for domestic oil drilling. (Transcript)

But one thing is for certain here in the United States, that we can help alleviate shortages by drilling for oil and gas in our own country -- something I've been advocating ever since I've been the President. I've been reminding our people that we can do so in environmentally friendly ways. And yet, the Congress, the Democratically controlled Congress now has refused to budge. It makes no sense …

Later, President Bush called Colombia’s President Alvaro Uribe Velez after the news that his military had freed 15 hostages—including three Americans—from the terrorist group FARC (the “Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia”—a haughty title for a bunch of Marxists thugs).

It’s also worth noting that FARC, like many other anti-American individuals and organizations, has recently endorsed Barack Hussein Obama for president.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with Gediminas Kirkilas, Prime Minister of Lithuania at the State Department in Washington.

Quote of the Day:

Presidential Message, Independence Day 2008

President Bush: I send greetings to all Americans on Independence Day.

More than two centuries ago, bold and courageous visionaries pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor in signing the Declaration of Independence. Guided by ancient and eternal truths, our forefathers proclaimed to the world that liberty was the natural right of all mankind and in doing so began one of the greatest chapters in human history. On the Fourth of July, our country commemorates the great achievements of these heroes and reaffirms its unwavering confidence in the power of freedom.

It was the desire for freedom that inspired our Founding Fathers, and it is the belief in the universality of freedom that guides our Nation. On this occasion, we pay special tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces, both past and present, who have answered freedom's call and defended the values that make America the greatest country on earth.

May God bless America.

I want to ask y'all something. For the last few weeks, I have been extremely tired. I have never felt this way. When I was on the Flag, I would get very dizzy and nauseated. Went to the dr. and he said I had another kidney infection and that I was dizzy and nauseated because I was getting dehydrated. I do not understand that part since I carry a bottle of water, gatorade, or something else to drink. It is too hot here not to have anything to drink. So, went back to the dr. yesterday, and he said he did not have any idea what was wrong with me except I did still have the infection. Ordered a lot of blood work and an urine culture. I do not have any idea either about what could be wrong. Told the dr. and nurse, that if I were not my age, I would think I had mono. I am just exhausted all of the time. Very aggravating. After memorizing all of the music I got to go one time. Went to opening night and slept all the next day. Anyone have any ideas????? I need some like last week.

President Bush pauses during remarks on the upcoming G-8 summit in the Rose Garden of the White House on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 in Washington.

President Bush: I'll remind people it took us a while to get into the energy situation we're in and it's going to take us a while to get out of it. It makes no sense for -- to watch these gasoline prices rise when we know we can help affect the supply of crude oil, which should affect the supply of gasoline prices ….

And I'll also tell them it's a tough period for American consumers. I mean, nobody likes high gasoline prices, and I fully understand why Americans are concerned about gasoline prices. But I want them to understand fully that we have got the opportunity to find more crude oil here at home, in environmentally friendly ways, and they ought to be writing their Congress people about it; and they ought to say, you ought to be opening up ANWR and Outer Continental Shelf, and increasing oil shale exploration, for the sake of our consumers, as well as become less dependent on oil.

Q Thank you, Mr. President. There have been a spate of recent stories about possible military action against Iran before the end of the year, if not by the U.S. then by Israel …

President Bush: I have always said that all options are on the table, but the first option for the United States is to solve this problem diplomatically. I've also make it clear -- made it clear that you can't solve a problem diplomatically unless there are other people at the table with you. And that is why we have been pursuing multilateral diplomacy when it comes to convincing the Iranians that the free world is sincere about, you know, insisting that they not have the technologies necessary to develop a nuclear weapon.

CRY FREEDOM was the name of our I Love America program which ended Sunday afternoon. It was about what people have paid to be free. A wonderful show even if I were too ill to be on the Flag. I always say this program is always the best but I really think this one was. We honored the vets from WW11, Korean, Vietnam and the 2 in the Middle East. Folding the flag and hearing taps brought tears to many eyes.

(coming out of lurker mode) Do you get enough iron? I am borderline anemic and when my iron gets very low, I feel exactly like you described. It’s that tired that goes to the bone and I cannot sleep enough. I get a supplement made by Solgar called Gentle Iron that’s easier on the digestive system.

Feel better! :-)
