Segments of Americans are gearing up to oppose Senator Barack Obama because they fear he will be more considerate of the debt America owes to Blacks.
Anti-Obama whites, in particular, are concerned hell get into the White House and put Blacks on track for a reparations gravy train.
CNN debate moderator Anderson Cooper put Black Reparations on track to be a part of the presidential dialogue during the South Carolina Primaries.
The African-American vote in South Carolina was very important, and that made the reparations question relevant in the Democratic Debate. At that event former Senator John Edwards said I'm not for reparations but I think there are other things we can do to create some equality that doesn't exist in this country today he said, going on to talk about inequities African Americans experienced paying mortgages in Charleston, S.C., where the debate was held.
When Cooper asked Sen. Barack Obama about reparations he sidestepped a yes or no answer instead preferring to redefine reparations to make it part of a broader conversation about economic justice. I think the reparations we need right here in South Carolina is investment, for example, in schools. Obama said.
To corner Obama and nail all the candidates down, Cooper asked for a show of hands and questioned: Is anyone on the stage for reparations for slavery for African-Americans? The only yes came from Congressman Dennis Kucinich who said: The Bible says we shall be and must be repairers of the breach. And a breach has occurred. We have to acknowledge that. It's a breach that has resulted in inequality in opportunities for education, for health care, for housing, for employment.
From then on, reparations have been an issue in the campaign. America owes Blacks $700 billion to $1.9 trillion for unpaid labor that built the countrys infrastructure, including the U.S. Capitol. While Obama dodges the issue, his old church, Trinity United Church of Christ, lists The Debt: What America Owes To Blacks, by Randall Robinson (Penguin Putman Inc., 2000) as recommended reading. In The Debt, Robinson argues that America still owes an enormous debt to Africans and African Americans for the incalculable damage that backs have suffered and continue to suffer as a result of two hundred and fifty years of slavery and segregation.
Baracks birthright brothers many whites; but Wautella Graham of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (NCOBRA) breaks the question of slavery into four categories of involvement: victims, collaborators, perpetrators and beneficiaries and makes the point that, Even immigrants and people whose ancestral line contains no slaveholders should pay reparations, since every American benefits from slavery.
Slavery victimizes free blacks to this day. All American people are responsible for the debt America owes.
I will never forget that movie North and the South when Patrick Swayze character looked at the way the immigrant and servents lived in the industrialized north and said “And you think we treat our slaves bad?” or something to that affect. They were living in ‘tents’ made out of draped cloth and no clean water.
From 1440 to 1660 the Portuguese had the monopoly on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. They even continues that peculiar institution up until the 1880’s. 75% of all Slaves were brought to the west by the Portuguese.
I don’t owe them a fricking thing as I did not bring them over here and neither did any of my relatives. So, screw them and their reparations.
What a Liberal thinks a redneck should think.
Should we feel any more obligated to pay this “debt” than the African countries we’ve loaned and given billions of dollars to via the IMF?
How much do blacks owe whites for increased costs of government due to disproportionate crime and welfare?
I think I know how the math would work out...
**** Agree, start with the Brits. ****
That was already tried. Maybe ten years ago now. And the reparation hustlers LOST. It went all the way to the English High Court. Basically, the court ruled that since slavery was legal at the time, no law was broke and as such, NOTHING was owed.
It didn't get much press here (natch) but I LMAO when I read about it. So the only 'sucker' left for the reparation hustlers is the USA.
An aside, I'm sick of hearing of "250 years of slavery", "400 years, of slavery", yada yada, yada. Being generous, slavery in "America" existed for a grand total of Eighty-Seven Years - period (1776-1863). And if we go from the US Constitution ratified in 1787, only 76 years.
..........the reasons so many Tutsis were hacked to death with farm implements is because the Hutus had no place to sell them. “African”-Americans who visit Africa these days are shocked to discover that many present day Africans look down on them. After all, their ancestor was a great warrior who sold your weak defeated enemy to the Dutch 400 years ago.
I have a very long list of reasons to vote against Obama, and reperations wasn’t on my list. I would be interested in seeing a list made by someone with reasons to vote for him on it. The one I made for that is blank.
Three hundred thousand Union soldiers - give or take - paid any debts owed to gimmes who were never slaves by people who never owned slaves a LONG time ago.
I believe the Dutch were heavily involved as well.
If you had informed that I'd be happier living on a mountaintop dressed in sheepskins if the Romans had not conquered my part of Europe, I'd call you a liar. Bad for my ancestors, good for me.
“Would Obama have to pay himself?”
His racial composition entitles him to a 50% rebate on his “reparations surtax” - there’s a space for it on the soon-to-be-released IRS form 1040rep.
Sorry, you don’t get one.

“I WISH Obama would support reparations for blacks over slavery. That would be the END of his candidacy”
Not to worry, he will do exactly that.
But only AFTER January 20, 2009....

I think that is an excellent solution. Let them go back to their homeland and see if they can compete with the tigers and lions.
Africa sold its people to the British (some, not all), so perhaps it should start there.
Reparations have already been paid in the form of half a million casualties on over a hundred battlefields between 1861 and 1865.
the debt has been paid.
Get used to it!
