Happy 4th of July (Message From LtC. Allen West to all FReepers)
July 3, 2008 | LtC. Allen West

Posted on 07/03/2008 7:06:32 AM PDT by Fox_Mulder77

"These are the times which try Men's souls, the summer Soldier and the sunshine Patriot shall soon fade away", Thomas Paine

These simple words were spoken during our first months of fighting for our American independence as we had suffered many losses. However, coming out of Valley Forge and crossing the Delaware River right before Christmas in 1776 George Washington led us to victory at Trenton and the tide began to turn. Our victory at Saratoga solidified our resolve and inspired the French to lend their resources to our fledgling Country. Even in the south where we faced Gen Cornwallis and suffered several losses we never lost faith in our cause, and found a means to victory, accepting his sword at Yorktown.

Therefore, some 230 plus years later we sit here in this the greatest Country the world has ever known enjoying the blessings of liberty and freedom which many in the world shall never know. However, lest we forget, there are those who would steal away our American rights and freedoms, and as always, our Patriots have answered the call to arms to defend our way of life.

So on this 4th of July, and indeed everyday, may all of us reflect as we gaze upon that "Grand Ole Flag" and remember that Patriotism is not defined by hollow words and empty rhetoric, but rather by American Men and Women who answer the call, with action within their capability. The world basically has three types of people; sheep, wolves, and guard dogs.....God bless our American guard dogs.

Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans! Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Ret)

Is Allen West the guy who, early after taking Baghdad, interrogated an Iraqi by putting a bullet into a sack of grain next to his head, which ended up saving his mens lives.

Unfortunately urban dwellers tend to forget the real world as it exists - sheep, wolves, and guard dogs. Hurray for the guard dogs. I think of a quote attributed to George Orwell, “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.”

Happy Independence Day to ALL!!

This day means alot to me and this is my first without my Mom who was so Patriotic it was unbelievable. My house was always decked out in the Red, White & Blue. While looking for decorations this year in NY was close to impossible to find, I was telling my Sister in Fl and she said no one really decorates anymore. But she did see a house on one of the main strips that had flags out and a big sign BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!. That just p’@d me off big time. How soon we forget 9/11. It’s all just politics and I’m sick of it.
God Bless America. I just hope alot of people open their eyes come Election day or we will be in big trouble.

I hear you, FRiend. We need to remember always how lucky we are to be living in the greatest nation on earth and to have so many noble young men willing to protect our freedoms.

Last night, my husband and I attended the Independence Day celebration in a nearby town. The fireworks are preceded by stirring patriotic songs. The musical portion concludes with the Pledge and the National Anthem. Every year, it gives me chills.

During the fantastic display, I asked my husband, rhetorically, “How many countries in the world get to celebrate like this? How many countries in the world have reason to celebrate like this?”
