Pat Buchanan is not “archconservative”. He is an antisemitic Nazi-sympathizing dhimmi.

“My only beef with World War II is it caused the Imperialist countries to be inundated with Muslim refugees who are offended both by the freedoms Europeans have and mention of the Holocaust.”

So what’s the answer, Ole Blog Pimper?

Goebbels must be alive and well from his grave. Obama is now going to give his Denver acceptance speech from the 75,000 seat Mile High Stadium. Will we have torch light marchers on the stadium floor? I don’t think the music will be Deutschland Uber Alles, but I am sure they will get Springstring et. al. to work the audience to a lather. Nurenburg II.

Adolf Hitler was not running for President of the Weimar Republic, a largely ceremonial role in a parliamentary republic (with one interesting exception in the case of Weimar) - he was the leader of a party looking to gain enough votes to lead a parliamentary government and make him the Imperial Chancellor (Prime Minister) of the republic.

This is precisely the kind of error that Buchanan and his ilk like to exploit.

Here's a question - why is Buchanan so upset over the UK's loss of its empire when he is a dyed-in-the-wool isolationist?

Why is he not lauding the UK for disentangling itself from its overseas adventures and proudly congratulating the Little England movement for this great achievement?

I’ll reserve judgment on Pat Buchanan’s latest literary work until he releases the audio book version in the original German.

The Hell he wasn't. Hitler changed his nationality from Austrian to German expressly for the purpose of running for President in 1932, and he pulled 36 percent of the vote.

That is why President Hindenburg appointed him Chancellor in 1933.

As an aside, it was Hitler’s original intention (as I recall reading history) to win the Presidency in order to dismantle the Weimar Republic from the top down. Hindenburg stood in the way and had little regard for Hitler, who he viewed as an incompetent Corporal of World War I and a gasbag.

Too bad Hindenburg didn’t stand his ground instead of allowing himself to be pressured into naming Hitler to the Chancellor’s position.

I agree Pat is not archconservative. However, neither is he a Nazi sympathizer nor anti-semitic. (Though I wouldn't argue with applying the word broadly to some of his earlier writings.)

When you boil down this new thesis, it is simply that Winston Churchill should never have promised Poland that England would go to war to save it from the Nasties, since it was a cold certainty that England would be unable to do so. He takes it a step further, and says Churchill should not have promised it even if England could have delivered on the promise.

I think the obvious, which you do too, is to quit the political correctness and worrying about offending someone, and make them live by our laws. Otherwise, they can get out of our country and go back from where they came. I do agree with your article too!

I understand.

I've already added Buchanan to my list of subjects for which there is only one correct opinion.

I beg to differ wide awake..he did indeed run for the presidency of the Weimar republic...if Deft and dextrous or Ol Pat wanna exploit that as an error...that’s just another thing they have wrong. Goebbels ran the presidential campaign...its theme was “Hitler Over Germany” playing off the fact that Hitler did most of his campaign travelling by plane, one of the first modern politicians to do so.

As to your question...you’re not expecting me to get inside that man’s head, I’m sure, but many isolationists supported the British Empire because the Royal Navy kept a peaceful staus quo. It was good for business and didn’t cause the American taxpayer a cent.

The Hell he wasn't.

He was on the ballot, but he never expected to win the Presidency outright - he wanted to see his party become the central bloc in the parliament, so that he would be pulling the strings.

That is why President Hindenburg appointed him Chancellor in 1933.

It was a little more complicated than that.

The Presidency was not the key to this process: the Chancellorship was.

The President was not permitted dictatorial power, but he was permitted to give the Chancellor dictatorial power.

Hitler did not want to grant someone else dictatorial power - he wanted to have dictatorial power.
