McCain vs. Obama — The Veeps
Constitution Club ^ | 7-07-2008 | Damien Veatch

In this week’s McCain vs. Obama, we look at the vice presidential selections. Today, we begin with a look at Obama’s options. I’ll offer some analysis of outlier options for Obama, and then I’ll give my top five picks for the Democratic Party’s nominee. Mind you, these represent my belief in who would be the best pick for Obama, not who I think he is most likely to pick.

On the one hand, the Obama camp clearly believes that theirs is a transcendent candidacy. The campaign that claimed the Moses-like quality of halting the rising of the seas and announced that the clinching of the nomination began the moment when “our planet began to heal,” is now running television ads in North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Indiana, Nebraska, Montana, Alaska and North Dakota. Hell, if your candidate can heal the plant, why can’t he win South Carolina?

On the other hand, Obama is winning and has shown that for all his high-minded talk, his pursuit of the presidency is ruthlessly calculating. It is a reasonable assumption that for every advisor who urges Obama to fly with the angels and select a deputy Messiah, as it were, there will be at least two advisors who will suggest he adopt the front-runners’s caution.

So with that in mind, here we go.

The Game Plan: If Obama could have everything in a single candidate, that candidate would be white, female, articulate, loyal, have experience in foreign affairs, be from a purplish red state, and affirm Obama’s message....

Looks like Kathleen would be the ideal pick. If I were her, I would hold out for some real say so in the admin. The EO building is a long way from the real action, and BHO will need a more moderate outlook.

I can’t believe that America takes this guy seriously, nonetheless. I truly hope voter IQ’s have not dropped that low as yet.

As I expected Richardson to have been Hillary’s running mate, I expect that Gilligan-Sebelius is the top choice for Obama.

She would be a fantastic choice except for the asinine rule that only native-born citizens are eligible for the presidency. .... That she is barred from being selected as President or Vice President is a stain on our nation’s laws.

Drama much?

If they want to look at a VP who would be positioned to run for President in 8 years, the Governor of Montana is a pretty effective option for them.

Nunn, Biden, Gephardt, Dashle don’t look like future Presidential options.

As a practicle political matter, Bush did his party and the country no favor by picking Cheney. A better strategy would have been for Cheney to step down one year into the 2nd term, to bring in somebody groomed to run now.

Cheney could have remained influential, in some other capacity, and there would have been a natural succession.

IMO Bush hasn’t been a dazzling manager. He certainly leaves the party in bad shape, some of which could have been avoided.

LOL! Some Freepers have been joking about it, but if Hillary had "gotten her way" and "who knows what could happen" happened, if you believe the media reports, Obama would simply rise again in 3 days.

The governor who has driven Michigan into a depression? The mention of “Jenny from the Block” alone makes this article utterly ridiculous.

Sebelius brings nothing to the ticket and doesn’t fill any of the defense or foreign policy gaps in Obama’s background. I could see McCaskill first because she would probably bring Missouri with her. Obama won’t carry Kansas with or without Sebelius.

I am sure she looks good doing it too (wasn't one of the retorts by her supporters to the “she's incompetent” argument “but she looks good in jeans!”?). I swear her only purpose on the political scene was to give former Ohio Gov. Bob “Tax ‘Em” Taft a run for the money on who is the worst governor.

It doesn't work like that.

They’re political soulmates.
