Chowdhury Got Angry When Garage Door Didn't Open Quickly.
A state legislative candidate from Jefferson County accused of slapping and choking his 16-year-old daughter pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree assault.
Vince Chowdhury, 48, got angry when his wife and daughter didn't open the garage door quickly enough when he honked his car horn in their driveway on June 17, according to an arrest affidavit. The document said Chowdhury, a Jefferson County school board member, sat in the driveway several minutes honking his horn.
His wife and daughter apologized for making him wait but he thought the apology insincere so he slapped his daughter's face and then began to choke her with both hands when she backed away, the girl said.
Chowdhury said after his courtroom appearance Tuesday morning. "I feel that I should have used better judgment. And the three minutes of anger ... I felt that I could have done a better job of handling the situation."
For the misdemeanor, he was given a one-year deferred sentence and ordered to take anger management and parenting classes.
"The intent was to discipline my child who I felt was being disrespectful to her father. I know now there's a better way of handling the situation, I should have done that," Chowdhury said. "And I want to move forward with this...
Chowdhury, a Democrat, is running for the House District 22 seat ...
When asked if he planned to resign from the school board or quit the race for the House seat, Chowdhury replied that he is taking it one step at a time and will address those issues at a later date.

in between beatings?...wonder what the wife and daughter would say. Usually, by the time they dare turn them in, they have taken years of abuse...
So can a couple of other young women, that are dwarfed by this guy, and 3 or 4 others almost as big.
And when you execute the break technique correctly, about 1/4 of a second after you break the grip of the two hands around your neck, you have the opportunity to slam either elbow directly into the face of the perp. The eye, the throat, the temple, the cheekbone, etc. Amazing stuff.

This can be PART of self defense but puhleeze don't spread this as a way of "protecting" a woman. A GUN is the main "equalizer".
The mindset for fighting is different. It's like the Olympic female judo participant that was strangled by her husband. I'm sure she had a mindset for defense and years of training. Same with the girl that was assaulted and killed by the 60'ish man while hiking last year... she was in great shape and had taken self defense according to her friends....but neither had weapons.
I've got 3 daughters, all can fight but all know how to handle a pistol, rifle and shotgun. Each will get a present from daddy when they are old enough to get a CCW permit.
Next time, install an automatic opener, and save everybody grief.

Hot & cold running appliances; now if they were a son and a goat, instead of two lowly women, his life would be much more satisfying.
This class is about survival in the real world. We arent't doing or learning anything that Marqus of Queensbury has ever heard of.
A life or death situation comes out of you from nowhere, in the blink of an eye. Which is always how it happens, even if you're paying attention to your surroundings. Do you go home essentially unscathed? Or the bad guy? We're learning how to leave the scene with the bad guy laid out. Even if we don't have "a weapon" available.
I wouldn't trade what I'm learning in this class for anything.
Girls should feel safe around their fathers.

My guess is that it isn’t the first time—only the first time he got caught. I guess they’ll let him get away with murder the next time—after all, he is a RAT.
Is this where two hands are placed around your neck? 'Cause one arm across the throat with the other holding it (from behind) would be much harder to break free from (works real good in wrestling).
We haven’t worked on attacks from behind yet. That’s a more advanced class that starts this fall. Every woman in the current class is already committed to participating in the next one. But yeah, we’ll eventually have an answer for that.

There must be a lot of nerves there which allowed me to break out. We were just messing around but afterward I became convinced that younger brothers really want to kill you sometimes. When it was all over, he was amazed how much power I had gained all of the sudden. I said, "Look, stupid. I couldn't breath."
Krav Maga is great. I was taking classes for about a year, before I lost my job. One of the best things you learn is how to keep a survival mindset, and how to focus in the midst of distractions. My instructor came up with some great scenarios, full of distractions, to help us develop the split-second thinking and reactions.
Oh, and there is definitely a great response to the attacks from behind.
I read an article on FR a while back that gave statistics for women who were killed by a man who knew her. No matter what method the guy used to kill - gun, knife, etc - most of the women had been choked by the husband/boyfriend on a prior occasion. This guy should be in jail.
This just doesn't ring true. I can not believe that any man goes from being loving & caring for 21 years to strangling his daughter. My guess is that he's been abusive over & over & over. The only difference is that this time he got caught. Just the fact that he got mad having to wait for them to open the door shows something weird was going on in that house. Couldn't open it himself??
Thanks for the ping. Guess he’s too cheap to buy an automatic garage door opener, or maybe he just likes to have his wife and daughter wait on him.
He should be in jail! His daughter won’t forget THIS, and perhaps many previous incidents.
