Red Dawn Returns (Wolverine Remake)
IGN UK ^ | July 9, 2008 | Chris Tilly

Posted on 07/11/2008 6:40:41 AM PDT by tlb

Hot-on-the-heels of news that Darren Aronofsky may be directing MGM's Robocop reboot, the studio has announced plans to remake another '80s feature in the shape of Red Dawn.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story to modern day.

"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth.

"As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

“...but the movie itself sucked. It was horrible.”

Why? You mean a couple high school kids with AKs couldn’t ambush and defeat the Soviet Army?

“You’re probably right about the homo thing.”

Don’t forget the token black guy as the hero.

Red Dawn was an AWESOME movie when I was 12 years old.

Now? Not so much.

Awesome!! Been waiting a while for this.

Unfortunately, the PC police will have a field day with this one. They will absolutely decry the original’s heavy emphasis on a boys audience and characters. If they Dark Angel/Alias/Buffy the Vampirize it, that would be awful.

I hated Red Dawn! I thought it was a mess. I expect even less of this version since John Milius isn't directing and keeping the Hollywood lefts nasty fingers off the final product.

I am sure it will be white, Nazi military types that are the enemy. You know, the industrial military complex with latent homosexual tendencies that always go nuts. Maybe quoting a few bible verses.

The good guys will be a bunch of diverse teens that worry in between killings about what the war is doing to the environment.

Brokeback Dawn

You and I are laughing, but Hollyweird thinks this way. Oh and I left out the wise black man who will be an inspiration to the entire cast.

The bad guys will be government/wall street/religious believer types plotting the demise of the middle class by bailing out Bear Sterns and Fannie Mae while incarcerating liberals/gitmo survivors/illegal aliens/code pink in Halliburton-built internment camps run by General Petraeus who feeds the interned liberals with soylent green made from women, children, and minorities.

Hey, it’s an election year. The left has the entertainment industry.

I sure hope they don’t `change it from a patriotic film into something else.

The original has long stood out as an exception to the general rule that Hollywood hates America. Hard to imagine it being made today.

The original Red Dawn was fantastic, loved it.

I’m sure this new version will be totally liberalized.

Meaning, Patrick Swayze’s character will be some inner city gang-banger turned hero or at least his second in charge will and they’ll unite scanitly-clad Obama soccer moms women and MS13 along with the bloods, crips and Code Pink to fight Halliburton and Blackwater agents.

I have a real soft spot for this movie and Iron Eagle. I mean, both really sort of sucked really bad, but the intent was good. As bad as they were, I watch them evertime they come on the tube.

“...I remember wondering what business the Cubans could possibly have invading the US...”

Given that Cuba was a Soviet client state I’m sure their armed forces would have done something in support of a Soviet attack upon the US.

I remember a scene in the Chuck Norris movie “Invasion U.S.A.” where “terrorists” dress up as policemen and open fire on a crowd of hispanics (IIRC), thereby starting a violent beef between the locals and the real police. I don’t doubt that something similar could have been in the works. The Cubans did have commando and specops units that would no doubt have been placed under the command of the GRU.

Now, why the Cubans ended up in Colorado in the movie is a whole ‘nother thing, unless they were already in Mexico causing trouble and just advanced north into Aztlan territory.

Just my 2 cents.

In my 1985 High Shcool Senior Memory Book, I listed “Red Dawn” as my favorite movie, and still catch snippets of it on cable as they play it alot.

Almost as bad idea to remake this as it is to do that upcoming monstrosity that is recasting “Star Trek”. Aren't there any writers in Hollywood, or is it all retreads from here on out! I can't wait until Harrison Ford is cast as Ben Kenobi in the Star Wars remake in a couple of years!!!

That said it was a cool movie... Gave me many survivalist fantasies, helped me be a better outdoorsman.

Yep, that's what made it a great movie. The old "what would I do in this situation?" scenario. (That's what my daughter and I enjoyed about Dawn of the Dead and other end-of-the-world movies. Not the zombies, but watching the surviors and seeing what we would do different.)

Mostly we were scared by the bad acting.
