China's "Live" Olympic Broadcast Will Be Delayed 10 Seconds... (to censor damaging scenes)

China's "Live" Olympic Broadcast Will Be Delayed 10 Seconds to Avoid Airing any Embarrassing Political Episodes

By chinafreepress.org

Jul 8, 2008 - 11:41:36 PM

To avoid broadcasting any undesirable incident, China's government has instituted a 10-second delay on the "live" broadcast of the Olympics. According to sources, the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party has ordered all regional television stations to implement a 10 second delay on their "live" Olympic broadcast. This delay order is meant to protect against any political protest--whether shouting a slogan or unveiling a banner--being broadcast, including any by foreign athletes in competition or on the medal stand

Last January, in the city of Changchun, Jilin Province, during the Asian Winter Games, five South Korean female athletes unveiled a banner reading: "Baitoushan (in China known as Changbaishan) is Korean Territory." But because of China's standard practice of delaying live broadcasts, the act was not shown on Chinese television. But it did put a scare into China's media officials and for a time influenced the foreign relations between China and Korea.

If there is a sudden protest or Tibetan flags are unfurled as they were during the Olympic torch relay, all Chinese TV stations central and regional can switch over to a different broadcast and prevent China's domestic audience from seeing the protest on television.

In addition, all station managers of regional television stations will be required to sleep in the station and remain on duty throughout the Olympics and personally vet all broadcasts to make sure that no political protest or other embarrassing event is broadcast on Chinese television.

Also, China's Copyright Bureau, MInistry of Information Industry, and State Administration of Radio, Film and Television Monday July 7 announced that it was investigating websites broadcasting Olympic-related events without proper permission and that several video broadcasting sites have already been shut down for illegal broadcasting. This is the first time that websites have been shut down because of the pending Olympics.

Think about it folks....

If we did the same thing here and denied our local freaks the opportunity of making their local self serving “protest” a national or international media event - it would spell the end of Code Pink, Boobs not Bombs, those freaks who celebrate at military funerals, etc, etc....

Here - folks have the 1st Amendment right to free speech - but NOT the right to disrupt sporting events or public meetings with THEIR agenda...
Let them get their own soap box or venue - and leave the rest of us alone....

I fear we are far too tolerant of the insults and interruptions from the Code Pinks and similar radical fringe lunatics.

I don’t know if there’s any such protocol in our age of no protocol, but “live” broadcasts used to have a brief delay as a matter of professional common sense.

Is the delay just for Chinese stations or the world?

Doesn’t matter to me—I won’t be watching the spectacle coming from such a noxious country.

The Olympics have become just another political footbal - about as meaningful and relevant as the UN.

This is not a big deal. To do anything or say anything or perish the thought, boycott the olympics would be an insult to them and Bush the globalist has already told us there will be none of that.
Everything I needed to know about Bush I learned when he let the commies down our airplane, kidnap the crew and hold them and then return the plane in 100,000 pieces.

The Peoples Republic of China disgusts me every day.

The fraud of pretending people are free because there are capitalist enterprises “allowed” by the government cannot be accepted.

The Beijing Olympics of 2008 are the modern day Berlin Olympics of 1936.

Beijing is the enemy of freedom everywhere. Note their veto of Zimbabwe sanctions at the UN yesterday.

We do have delays. Remember that car chase that ended in the guy blowing head off. Since then many “live” news stories are on a delay. Live radio is on a delay.

Given that so many are intent on screwing up the Olympics, it is wise to delay it. We would do the same thing and probably have.

Yes, but the commercials are KILLER:

Pissing off the government with a prohibited pamphlet:
10,000 yuan.

Government bullet to head: 50 yuan.

Your life: PRICELESS

the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party

That is pretty fancy and specific title for a bureaucracy. In this country, the American Marxist Party has the same department but it generically referred to as the MSM.
