We have opposed them before at funerals and in front of military hospitals.

If not now, when?

If not us, who?

Yes, his conversion was a relatively recent thing, obviously pretty personal to him & he evidently didn’t want to make a really big public deal about it. Seems like most people didn’t even know he did it at all, including the Fred Phelps Travelling Phreakshow.

Christ Episcopal Church, 118 N. Washington St.

That's where the service is being held? I'm astonished. I used to belong to Christ Church, and my family were members there almost from its inception. But about five years ago I was told that as a conservative I was not really ever going to be welcomed or accepted there. I have never been back. That Tony's funeral would be held at such a liberal church is not in character. Besides, I thought that, like other disappointed Episcopalians (and perhaps like me someday) he had converted to Catholicism. What gives?

I could not say it better myself.
I drew a sharp breath when I heard on Fox News that Tony Snow had passed. He was such a good man.

My reference to Soros was meant to address his contempt for religion. I can’t think of many better ways to damage religion in general than to have folks like this or parts of the the FLDS crowd to surface from time to time.

It would be nice to be able to blame Phelps and his crew on Soros or the Democrats or the Commies or someone. But the unfortunate fact of the matter is that Phelps and his crew have come by their hate on their own, without any outside support and without the need for any urging from anyone outside their family. I would not wish Phelps on my own worst enemy, nor would I even saddle the Democrats with him unnecessarily. The Kansas Democratic Party hates the man and everything he stands for just as much as the Kansas Republican Party does. And Fred has had as many run-ins with Democratic office holders as he has Republican ones.

Thanks. I appreciate the background on Phelps. It’s good to know there are some things Democrats won’t back, even if it is just because they don’t want to be outed for what many of them truly believe.

I hate to be so negative about Democrats, but when you see what their leaders continue to push, and they don’t bat an eye lash, I have a hard time working up enough sweat to defend them even on Phelps.

Look, I’m not ragging on you. I think you know where I am coming from. There’s only so many Clinton, Clinton, Obama, Durbin, Pelosi, Ried, Frank, Kennedy, Kerry,... tirades I could stomach before handing in my DNC card.

Not sure where Code Phelps got their information, but it was formally announced today by the White House that the funeral will be held at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on the grounds of Catholic University in D.C. on Thursday morning.

> Tony would just laugh.<

Phelps protestors would do well to loudly & pointedly pray for the family Phelps’ collective souls if they show up and start their idiocy.

Are they or are they not deep-cover Leftist wackos?

Given their history with Al Gore and the democrat party, it's hard to arrive at any other conclusion. I mean, really... almost overnight, they magically transform from left-wing activists to this ridiculously over-the-top left-wing caricature of Christians?

I don't think so. I think they're Soros stooges on a mission to damage Christianity and Christian conservatives (conveniently enough, Kevin Smith is making a movie called "Red State", a horror movie featuring Christian conservative bad guys based on the Phelps family).

I. Am. LIVID.

Maybe the Air Force could provide a funeral fly-by salute of an AC-130 squadron to honor Snow. (and take care of businisess with an appropriate gun salute.)

“NO way is this a Christian church.” Right. Some people have twisted and turned their version of Christianity so upside down it can’t be recognized as Christian. This group sounds like a bunch of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists to me.

Where've you been? Phelps and his crew have been at this for 20 years or more and have picketed everything from Clinton inagurals to gay funerals to Kansas City Chief games to stores selling Swedish appliances. It wasn't until they started picketing soldier funerals that they really started getting noticed.

Every time I see this piece of filth phelps and his parade of freaks described as Baptists, I want to vomit.

This ‘man’ is no more a Christian than I am a Homelite chainsaw. I can run around buzzing and gnawing at trees, but that would just make me a nutjob much like phelps.

These ‘people’ are disgusting and should face loud and continued derision anytime they decide to involve themselves where they do not belong and are not wanted. Let them ‘protest’ to their evil little hearts content, but make certain they suffer the consequences of their antisocial behavior as well.

I know Phelps picketed the Clinton inaugural in 1996. I also know he attended the Clinton inaugural ball as an invited guest of his close friend, Vice President Gore, in 1992.

Forgive me if I have a hard time believing that the entire Phelps family underwent such a radical transformation inside of four short years. You're still free to believe as you wish.

I think you're wrong on that. I heard that Phelps, Jr. was invited but I don't think he attended. The Phelps mob was picketing Hillary Clinton at an appearance in Lawrence during the 1992 campaign. Westboro opposed Clinton in 1992 because of Clinton's support for gay rights. I don't see them picketing the campaign in October and attending inaugural balls in January.

Phelps supported Gore in 1984 and 1988 because during his '84 Senate re-election run Gore went on record as opposed a homosexual 'bill of rights'. By 1992, the Phelps crew had come around and by 1998 they were picketing Gore's father's funeral.

Forgive me if I have a hard time believing that the entire Phelps family underwent such a radical transformation inside of four short years. You're still free to believe as you wish.

I'd say that picketing Gore, Seniors funeral is a pretty good indication that the bloom was off the relationship, wouldn't you?
