Mika: New Yorker Obama Cartoon 'Dangerous'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 07/14/2008 4:27:48 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Look for Mika Brzezinski outside the Danish embassy. True, the Danes had nothing to do with the New Yorker's publication of the Obama cover. But what more time-honored locale to protest an irreverent cartoon of a figure adulated with religious fervor?

Mika has condemned the New Yorker cover as "dangerous." Why dangerous? Mika doesn't quite say. But by darkly musing about unspoken perils that derive from the mocking of Obama, she would apparently place irony about her candidate off limits. Mika sounded the alarm on today's Morning Joe.

That list keeps getting longer and longer. I'm surprised Barry wasn't furious over this cover...(you know, his ears--shhh!)

No better way to tell a morning news show sold out. I mean, dang, if a host won’t pick on a candidate about the size of his ears, he’s obviously in the tank. /s

When I first saw the NYorker cover this morning and heard their “explanation” of why they did it I agree with whoever said there's probably 8 people in the West Side of NY that thinks that's funny.

Could be be stupidest moment of the campaign so far IMHO. McCain may win be default.

“The New Yorker cover is mocking how Conservatives view the Hussien Obamas. “

An accusation is often a subconscious confession.

The “elite” may catch the “sarcasm” but the average Joe will simply have the image [and all that it negatively implies] imprinted on his brain.

Thanks New Yorker, for performing an important public service.

Is that New Yorker cover implying a little brokeback mountaineering?

It is dangerous, but only because it will garner sympathy for Obama and will serve to shield them from discussing the issues mocked by the comic, which are completely legitimate.

That is what they claim. I wonder though if a certain senator from New York..... no..that’s okay... never mind.....

******

I had the same thought.Hillary is still fighting wherever she can.

This cover is so over-the-top that it can be passed off as a ‘lampoon.’ The total picture, though, is really nasty. It goes way beyond what should be considered ‘humor’ about one of the presidential candidates.

Apparently, according to the discussion on Howie Kurtz’s show, Reliable Sources, yesterday, the article is totally positive about Obama. His panel did not see the cover as ‘offensive.’

I just watched/listened to David Axelrod’s appearance on Morning Joe, it was the sickest love in I’ve ever seen. I wonder if the McCain campaign and the RNC can file a complaint with the FEC claiming MSNBC is an extension of the Obama campaign and the DNC. I’m still waiting for a member of the McCain campaign to follow, I’m sure I’ll be waiting all day. On a side not, I was amused at Axelrod’s lame reply to a question by Barnicle about why the polls are so tight. Axelrod claims the polls won’t break until late in the Fall, typical answer from someone trying to cover his a$$. Ha, Ha.

This is such a nice way to start off the week. If this was the NY Post it would never go away. Now I predict it will be something like a willie horton lite. The ash holes in the ratmedia will help us sell the idea of how dangerous barack mcgovern really is. The real joke here is that the liberals who published this “cartoon” probably thought they were mocking us - kind of like an Archie Bunker thing. I love it!

On the Sunday Talk Show thread yesterday, one poster (Sorry, don't remember his name) made a satiric remark about Obama....both cutting and humorous:

"If you stand real close to Obama, you can hear the ocean."

The liberal cartoonist who drew the cartoon, knew exactly what he was doing. Advancing his career at the expense of Barack Obama’s.

The cartoon IS dangerous. Dangerous to Obama because it risks letting people know too much about him. Dangerous to the country because it could engender sympathy for the fraud.

This cover is devastating. As soon as I saw it I quickly researched to see if it was a real New Yorker cover or something put together by Dead.

This cartoon is going to torment the Obama campaign from now til November, and the fact that it is a New Yorker cover means it can’t be suppressed as some kind of right wing hate speech. New Yorker sophisticates are making fun of how their candidate scares the crap out of us, but they forget that many of the people he scares are white registered Democrats.

I can’t believe what The New Yorker did to Obama with this cartoon.
