(CNN) — Longtime Washington talk-show host John McLaughlin is facing fire Monday for referring to Barack Obama as an "Oreo" during a segment on his Sunday political program, "The McLaughlin Group.
The veteran Washington journalist was discussing the recent comments from the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who was caught last week by an open microphone on Fox News saying the Illinois senator is "talking down to black people" as he campaigns for the White House. Those remarks were largely seen in reference to Obama's recent admonishment at a Chicago church of some black men who he said were not living up to their responsibilities as parents.
Referencing Jackson's comments, McLaughlin said Obama "fits the stereotype blacks once labeled as an Oreo — a black on the outside, a white on the inside."

I find him amusing, as well. And from what I did watch during Primary Season, I don’t think he dug Barry and “Mee-chelle” very much and leaned more towards Mrs. Clinton.
It was only the myth of his being a post-racial candidate that got him taken seriously. Every time they bring up race, they produce more resentment. I want the Symbionese Liberation couple to carry "No Justice No Peace" signs while picketing an Italian pizza parlor.
I think ‘chocolate covered strawberry’ would have been the more appropriate desert analogy.

Mmm ... Oreos. I love oreos. I fail to see how something of such divine beauty could be interpreted in a derogatory manner.

At rallies, Steele has had Oreos thrown at him, a gesture equivalent to calling him a "fake black" (black on the outside, white on the inside). Elsewhere, he has been portrayed as a "Samba," accused of being a "race traitor," and an "Uncle Tom." And these attacks have not just emanated from the black community -- they've come from white people as well. They haven't just come from impoverished Baltimoreans who are angry at the system -- they've come from wealthy, educated and supposedly enlightened people. I've even heard them from students at this very university.

Young Asian-American fellow we know was in highschool football. So he's faced off against a black guy who starts talking trash at him and calls him a "banana" ~ a guy who's yellow on the outside and white on the inside.
He responded, "Yeah, but you're a bruised banana".
End of the trash talking. Total shut down on the other side.
If McLaughlin is not allowed to say Oreo, then he can say "bruised banana" ~ and it works.

The article says that he referred to Barack Obama as an “Oreo”
Many people will go around saying that McLaughlin called Obama an “Oreo”.
And that was the intention of the article.
Of course McLaughlin is the color of the filling, not the cookie, and so he can and will be ripped to shreds for saying something that is said by people who are the color of the cookie, not the filling.
Love your analogy.
